Настоящая методическая разработка школьного вечера на английском языке, посвящённого празднованию Дня Святого Валентина в англоязычных странах, была успешно апробирована среди учащихся лицея №14 г. Электростали Московской области. Учащиеся обучаются английскому языку по программе, разработанной автором на основе учебника `Spotlight`. По нашему мнению, данный материал может быть с успехом использован в школах традиционного и нетрадиционного типа для проведения вечера страноведческой направленности, а также и как дополнительный материал при работе над языком на уроке, на факультативном занятии или в кружке английского языка.

Продолжительность вечера – 1 час.

На сцене Девушка и Юноша.

Девушка: Dear friends! Today we are having a Saint Valentine`s Day Party. We are going to celebrate this wonderful holiday, to learn about its history, to listen to some beautiful songs and poems and to see some scenes dedicated to Saint Valentine`s Day. Moreover, we have a unique opportunity to talk about love.

Юноша: By the way,___________, I remember the words of the greatest poet of all times, William Shakespeare.

Кто под звездой счастливою рождён,

Гордится славой, титулом и властью.

А я судьбой скромнее награждён,

И для меня любовь – источник счастья.

Под солнцем пышно листья распростёр

Наперсник принца, ставленник вельможи.

Но гаснет солнца благосклонный взор,

И золотой подсолнух гаснет тоже.

Военачальник, баловень побед,

В бою последнем терпит пораженье,

И всех его заслуг потерян след.

Его удел – опала и забвенье.

Но нет угрозы титулам моим

Итак, дамы и господа, устраивайтесь удобнее и наслаждайтесь праздником.

Кстати, _____________, тебе известна история возникновения Дня Святого Валентина?

Девушка: В одной легенде говорится о том, что много лет назад, в Риме, жил священник по имени Валентин. В то время правил император Клавдий II, который издал закон, запрещающий мужчинам жениться. Он боялся, что если у них будут возлюбленные или жёны, то они не захотят сражаться в войнах. Но Валентину было жалко молодых людей, которые были влюблены, поэтому он тайно проводил свадебные церемонии. Когда об этом узнал император Клавдий, он велел казнить Валентина. Некоторые говорят, что это случилось 14 февраля.

Юноша: Да, это грустная история. Но я знаю ещё одну не менее печальную историю. Она о человеке, которого тоже звали Валентин, и жил он в Риме во времена императора Клавдия II. Так как Валентин помогал христианам, которых не любил император, он был заключён в тюрьму. Но даже там, Валентин излучал любовь ко всем людям. У надзирателя была юная слепая дочь. Валентин совершил чудо, восстановив ей зрение.

14 февраля, незадолго до своей смерти, Валентин отправил ей прощальное послание, которое было подписано «От твоего Валентина». Это и была первая в мире валентинка.

Девушка: Мне жаль этого человека. Почему добрые люди чаще других страдают?

Юноша: Наверное, за этот дар надо платить. А сейчас, дорогие друзья, скажите, какая пара из известного произведения Вильяма Шекспира считается символом вечной и искренней любви?

Ответ учащегося: Ромео и Джульетта.

Юноша: Несомненно, эта влюблённая пара всегда будет напоминать нам о том, что существует настоящая любовь и её надо беречь.

Девушка: Ребята, а кто помнит, в каком городе разворачиваются все события пьесы Шекспира «Ромео и Джульетта»?

Ответ учащегося: Верона.

Юноша: Правильно. Это невероятно красивый город в Италии. Но молодые люди всего мира приезжают туда, прежде всего потому, что верят: именно в Вероне живет Любовь. Заглянем и мы в этот город, полный романтики, вместе с _________________________.

1. Презентация «Верона – город, где живет любовь»

Девушка: Чудесное путешествие! Вот бы отправиться в Верону времен Шекспира и подслушать вместе с Ромео, как Джульетта объясняется ему в любви, стоя на легендарном балконе!

Юноша: Сегодня твое желание исполнимо. Конечно не без помощи Святого Валентина, современной техники и Полины Симагиной, ученицы 9А класса. Итак, монолог Джульетты.

2. Видеоролик и монолог Джульетты.

O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?

Юноша: Я под впечатлением! И, знаешь, я хочу вручить тебе валентинку в честь сегодняшнего дня.

Девушка: Спасибо! Какая красивая…. А где стихотворение? Разве ты не знаешь, что на валентинке принято писать стихотворные посвящения человеку, которому ты ее даришь?

Юноша: Легко! Сейчас ребята из 5А класса столько стишков расскажут – выбирай любой!

3. Забавные стихи-валентинки — 5А класс

Девушка: Ребята просто молодцы! Неужели мы тоже были когда-то такими же милыми и забавными?

Юноша: Почему же «были»? Некоторые и сейчас не слишком повзрослели. И до сих пор мы все любим сказки. Сейчас мы с удовольствием посмотрим небольшой спектакль-римейк по мотивам сказки Ганса Христиана Андерсена «Русалочка». В роли главных героев – учащиеся 5А класса. Встречайте!

I hope that Valentine`s Day,

Действие I

Звучит легкая фоновая музыка, которая сопровождается «слайдшоу» с видами подводного мира (слайд 1).

Вступление (слайд 2 – подводный мир)

Ведущий:

В море синем, в глубине,

На морском скалистом дне,

Меж кораллов и ставрид,

Золотой дворец стоит.

Он стоит там сто веков,

Средь красивейших садов,

В том дворце, под толщей вод,

Старый Царь Морской живет.

В затонувших кораблях,

Словно в славных теремах,

Обитает люд морской,

Он веселый и простой:

Целый день поет и пляшет,

Или плавниками машет.

Выход двух русалочек.

Русалочка 1: Hello! What a nice day!

Русалочка 2: Yes, and I can`t sit. I want to play!

Русалочка 1: I want to play, too!

Русалочка 2: But …where is our sister? Little Ariel?

Русалочка 1: Where is she? Ariel, where are you?

Русалочки 1, 2: Ariel! Ariel!

Ариэль: I am here.

Появляется Ариэль, но русалочки ее не видят, продолжая ее искать.

Ариэль: (громче, чтобы привлечь внимание сестер) I am here! Follow me!

Русалочка 1: Wait! Wait! Where are you going, Ariel?

Ариэль: I want to show you something very interesting!

Русалочка 1: What? What is it?

Русалочка 2: Is it a big beautiful octopus?

Ариэль: No!

Русалочка 1: Is it a big beautiful crab?

Ариэль: No!

Русалочка 1: Is it a big beautiful fish?

Ариэль: (теряя терпение) No! No! No! I want to show you a big beautiful ship!

Русалочки 1 и 2: A ship?

Ариэль: Yes, a ship!

Русалочки 1 и 2: A ship?

Ариэль: Yes, yes, yes! Can`t you hear me!? A ship! S-H-I-P!

Русалочка 2: (в ужасе) Oh, no! No, no, no! Not a ship …

Русалочка 1: Father will be very angry!

Ариэль: Come on! Don`t be afraid!

Русалочки: No!

Ариэль: Please!

Русалочки: No!

Ариэль: Please, dear sisters! Only for a second! Please, please!

Русалочки: O. K.

Вся команда убегает.

Действие II

Слайд 3 – морской берег

Ведущий: Ариэль уговорила своих сестер подняться со дна морского, чтобы взглянуть на корабль, который проплывал мимо. Всё в мире людей казалось Русалочке удивительным и необыкновенным. Рассказы о людях, их городах, о деревьях и цветах глубоко запали в душу Ариэль, и она не упускала ни одной возможности, чтобы узнать о них больше.

Вынырнула из волны

Сказочной морской страны,

И в смятении застыла

Так вокруг красиво было:

Ветер нежно дул прохладный,

Солнца луч ласкал приятный,

В золотых цветах заката

Облака неслись куда-то,

В море лебеди купались,

В небе звёзды зажигались,

А совсем неподалёку

Плыл корабль одиноко.

Слайд 4 – корабль на фоне моря.

Во время слов ведущего, русалочки «выныривают» из воды, осматриваются, любуются красотой вокруг, затем Ариэль присаживается на камень, сёстры садятся вокруг неё.

Ариэль:

When ships go sailing by

I watch their smoke across the sky.

Where do they go beyond the blue?

I wish I knew, I wish I knew!

Русалочка 2: Look! A ship!

Ведущий: А на корабле, который заметила Русалочка, плыл молодой принц. Он стоял на палубе и вглядывался в морские волны. Рядом с ним моряки пели свои песни, веселились и рассказывали об удачной рыбалке!

Слайды 5-7 с видами бушующего моря постепенно сменяются.

Ведущий:

Вдруг ветер стал крепчать –

Тучи в море собирать:

Волны поднимались выше,

Облака сгущались ближе

И проказница-природа

Разыграла непогоду.

Русалочка 1: Oh, dear! I think father is very angry!

Русалочка 2: Yes, we are late! Father is looking for us!

Русалочка 1: Ariel! Let`s hurry! Let`s go home! (тянут Ариэль за руки).

Ариэль: I want to stay here a little longer! Please, sisters, wait!

Выходит Морской царь. Морской царь нагоняет волны.

Морской царь: You, naughty young ladies! What are you doing here? I am very angry! Go home! Right now! And don`t say anything!

Русалочки: Yes, father.

Слайды 8, 9 – бушующее море.

Морской царь нагоняет бурю.

Ведущий: Рассердился морской царь на своих непослушных дочерей, и забурлило море! Ветер крепчал, волны поднимались всё выше, и команда корабля уже не справлялась с разбушевавшейся стихией! Корабль пошёл на дно!

Слайд 10 – бушующее море.

Принца захлёстывают волны. Он идет ко дну.

Ведущий: Но молодой принц так понравился русалочке, что, несмотря на запрет родителей, она решила помочь ему.

Ариэль: I`ll save you! Swim! Swim! Don`t give up!

Ариэль вытаскивает Принца на берег и усаживает на камень. Появляются Принцесса с фрейлиной. Русалочка оставляет его на берегу и уплывает.

Слайд 11 – берег моря.

Принцесса вместе с двумя фрейлинами прогуливаются по берегу моря и вдруг замечают человека, лежащего на берегу моря.

Принцесса: Ah! It`s Prince Eric! Prince! Can you hear me? Wake up! Wake up!

Принц: Who are you? You are so beautiful!

Принцесса: Oh! Poor boy! Don`t speak! Come, we`ll help you!

Принцесса и фрейлины уводят Принца. Ариэль выглядывает из-за кулис, провожает Принца грустным взглядом.

Действие III

Ведущий: Ариэль стало интересно, а может ли русалочка стать человеком? Ариэль знала, кто сможет ей дать ответ на этот вопрос. Морская колдунья.

Фон: тревожная музыка подводного мира.

Ведущий: Глубоко-глубоко под водой, куда не проникают солнечные лучи, где вода теряет свой изумрудный цвет и становится чёрной, жила Морская колдунья.

Слайд 12 – замок морской колдуньи.

Выход колдуньи.

Урсула: Ariel! Young lady! What are you doing here?

Ариэль: Good afternoon. I`ve got a question.

Урсула: I know what you want. I can help you.

Ариэль: Really? Is that true?

Урсула: Yes. Listen to me. You want to have legs and feet… and Prince Eric…

Ариэль: Yes…

Урсула: You hope the prince will fall in love with you and you`ll marry him…

Ариэль: Yes …

Урсула: OK. Take this. And drink. Oh, one more thing! How will you pay me?

Ариэль: Pay? Yes, of course. But, but … what can I give you? I`m just a little mermaid…

Урсула: Give me your lovely voice! You have the loveliest voice in the sea. And I want it!

Two feet can walk, two feet can dance. Don`t think for long, agree at once!

Ариэль: Well… take my voice and give me two feet!

Урсула: Sing!

Звук голоса Ариэль

Колдовство. Ариэль кружится, постепенно уходя со сцены.

Слайд 13 – берег моря.

Ведущий: Когда Ариэль очнулась, то она увидела вместо русалочьего хвоста две ножки с маленькими пальчиками! Маленькая русалочка захотела закричать от радости, но не смогла – колдунья забрала у неё голос … Зато она умела ходить!

Действие IV

Звуки музыки на балу

Cлайд 14– дворец.

Ведущий: А в это время во дворце царила суета. Принц выбирал себе невесту. Со всей страны съехались самые прекрасные девушки. И среди них Принц надеялся найти ту, что спасла его во время бури…

Слайд 15 – бальный зал.

Все танцуют на балу, делая поклоны, стараясь понравиться Принцу. Выходит Ариэль на сцену и встает рядом с фрейлинами, она не может петь, но с интересом наблюдает, слушает и танцует. Когда заканчивается песня, Ариэль радостно хлопает в ладоши, привлекая тем самым к себе внимание.

Принц: Oh, and who`s that pretty girl?

Принцесса (фрейлине): Tsssss! (Принцу) We don`t know! She`s very strange! She can`t talk! Let`s go for a walk! (пытаются увести Принца)

Принц: Wait! Wait! My heart is beating so fast! (обращаясь к Ариэль) I think, I`ve seen you! I don`t remember where! I know your eyes! Who are you?

Танец Ариэль и Принца.

Ариэль танцует, пытаясь напомнить принцу, где они встречались ранее.

Принц: It`s you! You saved my life! I love you! Do you want to be my wife?

Ведущий: Как только принц произнёс эти слова, разрушились злые чары Морской колдуньи, и Русалочка снова обрела свой голос! И смогла ответить:

Ариэль: Yes, I want to be your wife! I love you too!

Ведущий: Все в королевстве были счастливы! И даже грозный Морской царь приплыл, чтобы поздравить свою любимую дочь!

Песня “Carnival Time”.

Cлайды 16-22. Фейерверк.

Юноша: А сейчас, дамы и господа, я хочу, чтобы вы послушали мою любимую песню о бесконечной любви двух людей из одного известного фильма.

Девушка: Ты говоришь загадками. Пожалуйста, скажи нам, о каком фильме ты говоришь.

Юноша: В этом фильме один из главных героев тонет в океане, а другой остаётся в живых.

Девушка: Мне кажется, это «Титаник».

Юноша: Ты угадала. Надеюсь, вам понравится эта песня в исполнении ученицы 7Б класса Маши Беловой.

Юноша: (Декламирует) Робин-Бобин кое-как подкрепился натощак: съел пять тортов утром рано…

Девушка: Как-то странно на тебя повлияла твоя любимая песня из твоего любимого фильма!

Юноша: Да нет, просто сейчас на сцену выйдет Саша Кобрин, ученик 7А класса, в роли сладкоежки и известного любителя поесть Робина-Бобина.

Девушка: Дорогие друзья, мы предлагаем вашему вниманию миниатюру под названием «Ты лучше, чем любимый торт». Аня Андриец, ученица 6А класса, принимает поздравление Робина-Бобина с Днем Святого Валентина.

Давай пофантазируем вместе с учащимися 7А класса, которые покажут нам сценку из сказки “Sleeping Beauty” – «Спящая красавица».

Scenery: A bedroom in the royal palace.

King: It`s the happiest day in my life! I hope she is sleeping quietly. May I sing a lullaby?

Queen: Don’t disturb her. She is so beautiful.

King: How shall we call her? Rose, Daisy or Margaret? Oh, no, Chrisanthemum!

Queen: It`s time to christen our kid. It`s important to think over what guests to invite. Fairy Friendship, fairy Honesty and fairy Beauty.

King: And fairy Love, of course. But there is one lady who mustn`t be invited. It`s fairy Jealousy. I dislike her.

Queen: You talk like a child, darling. We are a royal family and should be dutiful. We must invite fairy Love and fairy Jealousy. (comes out).

King: I am a father and my duty is to guard my little princess. (takes a pen and strikes out a name in the list.

Scene II

Scenery: There is a party at the palace. The hall is decorated with flowers and lights. Fairies come in and meet the royal family.

King: Welcome to the palace, dear ladies. Glad to see you. I hope you didn`t forget a good present for my daughter!

Queen: We are happy to greet such high society. It`s a great honour for our daughter and us! Fairy Friendship: I am the first to bring my gift. Everyone who sees the little princess can`t do any harm to her. Birds, animals, flowers, insects will become her friends.

King: And people. Don`t forget about them.

Fairy Friendship: Certainly. I`ll put that down. Insects and people as well.

Fairy Honesty: It`s my turn. I want the princess to be honest and never tell lies.

Queen: Simple-hearted girls are not popular nowadays. They can`t make a good career.

Fairy Honesty: The princess will be honest whether you like it or not.

Fairy Love: I am going to say a few words.

Queen: Take your time, lady. It`s early to tell about love. My daughter is two days old.

Fairy Love: It`s never too early to tell about love.

King: Let this young lady say a word.

Fairy Jealousy: Stop chattering. Nobody will talk but me! You are too impolite; you have forgotten to invite me to the party. So I came myself without any invitation. You should look straight at the difficulties of life: illness, jealousy and death. Be ready for them. Your daughter will die when she sits down to spin wool at the age of sixteen. Nothing will save her.

Fairy Friendship: You can`t say so. Everybody will be her friend.

Fairy Jealousy: You have forgotten… As usual … Me! I`m neither a man nor an animal. I`m a witch. She must die and she will die at the age of sixteen. All she will need is a coffin!

Fairy Love: The last word is not yours, but mine! The princess won`t die, she will fall asleep. She will be sleeping until a young man awakes her.

Queen: I wonder what his name is. Will he be prince?

Fairy Love: Who knows? I think he will love her.

Scene III

Scenery: A dining-room at the palace. The royal family is sitting at the table.

King: You shouldn`t use knives and forks, they are sharp. You can`t prick yourself.

Princess: But I`m sixteen and this is a good age to become independent.

Queen: Don`t get angry, my darling. We are your parents. We know better what is useful and what is harmful for you.

Princess: I think I don`t want to have dinner. I`m not at all hungry. I have a terrible headache. May I go back to my room?

She leaves the table and goes to her room but on her way she meets an old woman who is spinning wool.

Fairy Love: Nobody is. Welcome to the sleeping kingdom!

Prince: All the people are sleeping. Is it infectious? I may catch this sleeping disease. I`d rather go away.

Fairy Love: He is actually a modern young man who hesitates a lot. I know this sort of people. They are fond of computers and pay no attention to princesses.

Witch: This is a very ancient kingdom. There aren`t any computers here.

Prince: Who says this? The palace is full of mysterious voices and I don`t like it. It`s dangerous. I prefer playing computer games where you can save a lot of imaginary princesses.

Fairy Love: Stop! You haven`t seen the riches of this palace.

Prince: I am going to be a tourist. I should see all places that are worth seeing.

He travelled around the palace and saw a sign: `NO Kissing!`

Fairy Love: You should kiss the princess to save this sleeping world. Then you`ll get all the riches as a reward.

Witch: If I were you I wouldn`t do it at all. You may fail. The disease may be infectious indeed!

Prince: It`s too complicated. I can`t make up my mind.

Fairy Love: If you go away I will be dusting and washing until another prince comes, and I am not sure that the new one will be better.

She pushes the prince and he falls down just on the princess. His lips touch hers and she opens her eyes.

Princess: Is it time to get up? I`ve been sleeping for ages, darling. Glad to see you.

Prince: You`re the most beautiful girl I`ve ever met.

Valentine’s Day is one of the most favorite holidays in the world. The festival falls on February the 14th every year and is celebrated all over the world. The festival commemorates a Christian saint called St Valentine, the festival isn’t a religious one. Nowadays Valentine’s Day is a secular festival which is celebrated by people of all ages and races. February the 14th is a festival of love, romance and friendship. People send greeting cards to their sweethearts and friends and ask them “Be my Valentine”. This means “be my friend or love”. People also decorate their homes with big red hearts and give red roses and chocolate to their sweethearts, friends and family members.

The origin of St. Valentine’s Day

What is the origin of St. Valentine’s Day? No one really knows the actual origin of Valentine’s Day. There are several legends about St.Valentine’s Day.

Pupil 1: Many historians consider it was held on the 14^th of February to honour Faunus, the god of animal life, hunting, the patron of husbandry. After Christianity spread, some people think this pagan festival eventually became Valentine’s Day.

Pupil 2: One of the legends says that Valentine was a Christian priest who lived in the 3.centure A.D. He was put into prison by the Roman emperor for his teaching and was beheaded on the 14^th of February. According to the legend he performed a miracle — he cured his jailer’s daughter of her blindness. Before the execution he wrote her a letter and signed it “From your Valentine”.

Pupil 3: According to another legend, Valentine was an Italian bishop who lived at about the same time.
Hе was thrown into prison because he secretly married couples, contrary to the laws of the Roman empire (of the Roman Emperor Claudius 11, who believed that single young men made better soldiers.). The legend says that he was burned at the stake. Roman emperor Claudius did not want young men to get married. He wanted all men to go to war instead. He said no one could get married without his permission. But young men and women who were in love wanted to get married. They went to Valentine and he married them in secret. When Claudius found out, he put Valentine into prison. Claudius killed Valentine on February, 14.

Pupil 4: One more legend says that there also was another St. Valentine who was a good friend to children. While he was imprisoned, the children that he had befriended missed him and brought him loving notes. Valentine wrote to children and friends who loved him from the jail. He was executed on February the 14^th . Some people think this is why we exchange friendly and caring messages on this day.

Symbols of St. Valentine’s Day.

Now, St. Valentine’s Day is the day of the sweethearts. On this day, people show their friends, relatives and loved ones that they care. People send valentines, sweets or flowers to those whom they love. What are the symbols of St. Valentine’s Day? Listen to the stories about some of them.

Pupil 1: Perhaps one of the oldest Valentine’s Day customs is sending valentines to their sweethearts, friends and members of their families. Valentines are greeting cards named after St.Valentine’s letters written from jail. Sending valentines became very popular. There are even books explaining how to write valentine messages and verses. Valentines can be sentimental and romantic, or funny and friendly. Valentines can be anonymous, heart-shared or have hearts on them. People buy valentines or make them themselves. On Valentine’s Day people send roses, forget-me-nots violets and tulips. Red roses are a symbol of love. The rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Red is a color that stands for strong feelings. That is why the red rose is a flower of love. On Valentine’s Day, one rose or a dozen means “I love you”.

Teacher: Flowers have some specific messages. The language of flowers developed over a period of centuries.

Pupil 5: Ribbons and Lace have been associated with love and romance since ages. Ribbons go back to the days when ladies gave ribbons to their favorite knights when they went to war. Lace comes from a Latin word, which means “to catch”. Lace was supposed to catch the heart of a loved one. Hundreds of years ago, women carried lace handkerchiefs. It was also usual for a lady to drop her handkerchief in the path of the man whose attention she wanted to draw.

Ribbons meant “You are tied up”, or “”You are my girl” Lace is the same “You have caught my heart in net”.

Pupil 7: Rings. In some countries, men and women exchange rings when they become engaged or marry. Valentine’s Day is a popular day for giving an engagement ring. The ring usually had stone or jewel set in it. Diamonds are common in today engagement rings.

Pupil 8: Love Knots : Use of love knots is an Arabic custom and is very expressive. In earlier days the wives used to sent love knots to their husband to express their love. The tradition continues till nowadays. It is a symbol of endless love. People made love knots from ribbon or drew them on paper.

Pupil 9: Love birds and Doves. Lovebirds are colorful parrots found in Africa. Most have red bills.

They are called love birds because they sit closely together in pairs like loving souls do. Doves were favorite birds of Venus. They remain with the same mates all their lives. The males and females both care for their babies. As these birds are symbols of loyalty and love they are also symbols of Valentine’s Day.

Pupil 10: Gloves Long time ago, when a man proposed marriage to a woman, he “asked for her hand”. The hand became a symbol of marriage and love. Soon gloves also became a symbol of love.

How do people in different countries celebrate Valentine’s day

There are a lot of traditions of celebrating St. Valentine’s Day in different countries.

British people celebrate St.Valentine Day by writing verses (poems) about love and giving each other presents in the form of a heart. In all parts of Britain writing poems is a popular tradition on Valentine’s Day. Magazines and newspapers publish love verses. Different regions of the country have their specific traditions to celebrate Valentine’s Day but one custom is the singing of special songs by children. These children are rewarded (given gifts) with gifts of candy, fruit or money. In some regions Valentine buns are baked with plums or raisins.

In the USA people give candies packed in cardboard boxes in the shape of a heart. They believe that the more candies the stronger love.

In Germany Lovers exchange not only chocolates, flowers, and heart shaped gifts, but a pig! The pig represents luck, They can give a picture with a pig, a small statue, a pig shaped chocolate. Germans prepare big ginger cookies in the shape of a heart which contain romantic phrases and messages like “Ich liebe dich” (I love you).

French people have been celebrating Valentine’s Day for a long time. The traditional gift is jewelry, but also candies, lottery tickets, romantic trips, artificial flowers… On that day, French people congratulate not only their love but also their close relatives and friends.

In Italy, the «Day of Love» is celebrated in classic style! On Valentine’s day couples get together to enjoy music, they go out for dinners at pizzeria. Just as in several other countries there is a strong tradition to exchange gifts like rose, perfume, chocolates and jewelry. Another popular Valentine’s Day gift in Italy is a small, chocolate-covered hazelnuts containing a small slip of paper with a romantic poetic quote in four languages.

In India this Day is the most popular among young people. Red tulips and roses, teddy bears and photo collages are the gifts in India. Coffee shops, restaurants are full with couples. Ice-cream and chocolate candies are sold like fire. Husbands and wives exchange the jewelry gifts.

In Mexico it is considered as a day of romance and love. In January the shops and the streets start getting decorated with hearts and cupids and the atmosphere gets filled with love and romance. Everywhere you see heart shaped balloons, flowers. In Mexico people give gifts not only to their sweethearts but they also greet their family and friends with gifts and presents.

In Australia these days more and more people are using SMS and e-mails to express their love. Surveys reveal that men in Australia are more romantic and open about expressing their love as compared to Australian women. Men in Australia buy more cards than women do.

Let’s play a game “Who stole my heart?” I’ll give you a heart, you should sit with your back towards the audience. One of the pupils will take your heart and you have to guess who it was. You should say “Who stole my heart? Was it you…?” You will be given 3 attempts to guess. If you manage to guess you go on to play, if you don’t the pupil who stole your heart will take your place.

Один ученик садится спиной к классу, в руках за спиной он держит бумажное сердце. Другой ученик очень тихо подходит к нему и забирает сердце, возвращается на место и убирает его из вида. Первый ученик поворачивается и говорит “Who stole my heart? Was it you…?” У него три попытки. Если он угадает, то продолжает играть. Если нет, то ученик «укравший» сердце занимает его место.
