Storyteller 1: Once a year, there’s a marvelous night,

When enchantment and wonder spark and take flight.

Each home fills with joy on this grand holiday,

With hearts growing warm in a magical way.

The rooms are covered with wreaths.

The mantel has stockings beneath.

Lights twinkle and bells brightly chime

The moment’s arrived, it’s here, Christmas time.

The precious gift lies under this tree

What secrets it hold,

Let’s look and we’ll see.

The first tells a story for us all to hear

About laughter and family, and those we hold dear.

We love Christmas so much, we want it to stay.

But what if we wished it was here every day?

Child 1: Today is the best day of the year.  lt’s Christmas!

Child 2: Oh, boys! Just what we always wanted

Child 3:  Hey, look at this. Cool!

Father: Merry Christmas, kids!

Children, Father

Noooooo!»

Father: l’ve got a special surprise for you!

Father: But you didn’t even read the card (поднимая открытку)

Child 2:  We’ll read it later.

Grandfather: Merry Christmas, everybody.

Grandmother: Where are my kids and my kisses? I could just eat you up.

Mother: Kids, dinner!

Child 1: The one thing better…

Child 3: ..than presents…

Child 2: is Christmas dinner.

Mother: lsn’t this lovely? All of us gathered for a wonderful meal.(выходит с подносом ,на котором лежит праздничная индюшка)

Grandfather: lt’s my favourite part of Christmas.

Grandmother: Turkey!

Mother: Kids! Where are your manners?

Child 2: We love your cooking, Mum!

Grandfather: Alright, who’s going to sing?

Child 1: We don’t wanna sing, granpa.

Child 3: We wanna play with our toys.

Grandfather: Bedtime, kida.

Child 3: What a great day!

Child 1: We should do it more often.

Child 2: lt’ll be the whole year until we get more Christmas.

Child 3: Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight.

Child 1: I wish I may, I wish l might, have the wish I wish tonight.

Children: We wish it was Christmas every day.

«A Christmas Carol» by Charles Dickens.

Ведущий — Once upon a time — of all the good days in the year, on Christmas Eve — old Scrooge sat busy in his counting-house. It was cold, bleak, biting weather: foggy withal: and he could hear the people in the court outside, go wheezing up and down, beating their hands upon their breasts, and stamping their feet upon the pavement stones to warm them. The city clocks had only just gone three, but it was quite dark already — it had not been light all day — and candles were flaring in the windows of the neighbouring offices.

A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!’

Bah! Humbug!

Christmas a humbug, uncle! You don’t mean that, I am sure?

I do. Merry Christmas! What right have you to be merry? What reason have you to be merry? You’re poor enough.

Come, then. What right have you to be dismal? What reason have you to be morose? You’re rich enough.

Bah! Humbug.’

Don’t be cross, uncle!

(Скрудж) — What else can I be, when I live in such a world of fools as this? Merry Christmas! Out upon merry Christmas! What’s Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer? If I could work my will, every idiot who goes about with «Merry Christmas» on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.

(П.) — Uncle!

(С.) — Nephew! Keep Christmas in your own way, and let me keep it in mine.’

(П.)- Keep it! But you don’t keep it.

(С.)- Let me leave it alone, then.

(П.)- Much good may it do you! Much good it has ever done you! ; a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time: the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women open their shut-up hearts freely, And therefore, uncle, though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good; and I say, God bless it.

(С.)- Let me hear another sound from you and you’ll keep your Christmas by losing your situation! You’re quite a powerful speaker, sir. I wonder you don’t go into Parliament.

(П.) — Don’t be angry, uncle. Come! Dine with us tomorrow.’

(С.) – I would see you. Yes, indeed, I do.

(П.) — Why?

(C.) — Why? Why did you get married?

(П.) — Because I fell in love.

(С.) — Because you fell in love!’. Good afternoon!’

(П.) -Nay, uncle, but you never came to see me before that happened. Why give it as a reason for not coming now?

(С.) — Good afternoon.

(П.) — I want nothing from you; I ask nothing of you; why cannot we be friends?’ (С.) — Good afternoon.

(П.) -I am sorry, with all my heart, to find you so resolute. We have never had any quarrel, to which I have been a party. So A Merry Christmas, uncle!

(С.) — Good afternoon.

(П.) — And a Happy New Year!

(С.) — Good afternoon.

(П.) – A Merry Christmas!

(C.) (негромко). There’s another fellow, my clerk, with fifteen shillings a week, and a wife and family, talking about a merry Christmas. I’ll retire to Bedlam.

(Д.1) — Scrooge and Marley’s, I believe. Have I the pleasure of addressing Mr. Scrooge, or Mr. Marley?

(С.) — Mr. Marley has been dead these seven years. He died seven years ago, this very night.

(Д.2) — At this festive season of the year, Mr. Scrooge it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the Poor who suffer greatly at the present time, sir.’

(С.) — Are there no prisons?

(Д.1) — Plenty of prisons.

(С.) — And the Union workhouses? Are they still in operation?

(Д.2) — They are. Still. I wish I could say they were not. А few of us are raising a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink and means of warmth. It’s Christmas time…What shall I put you down for?

(C.) — Nothing!

(Д.1) — You wish to be anonymous?

(С.) — I wish to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don’t make merry myself at Christmas and I can’t afford to make idle people merry. It’s not my business. It’s enough for a man to understand his own business, and not to interfere with other people’s. Good afternoon, gentlemen!’

(С.) — You’ll want all day to-morrow, I suppose?

(К.) — If quite convenient, sir.

(С.) — It’s not convenient and it’s not fair. And yet you don’t think me ill-used, when I pay a day’s wages for no work.’

(К.) – But it’s only once a year, sir.

(С.) — A poor excuse for picking a man’s pocket every twenty-fifth of December! But I suppose you must have the whole day. Be here all the earlier next morning.

(С.) — It’s humbug still! I won’t believe it.

— I know him; Marley’s Ghost.

(С.) — How now! What do you want with me?

(М.) — Much!

(С.) — Who are you?

(М.) -Ask me who I was.

(С.) — Who were you then? You’re particular, for a shade.

(М.) — In life I was your partner, Jacob Marley.

(С.) — Can you — can you sit down?

(М.) — You don’t believe in me.

(С.) — I don’t.

М.) -What evidence would you have of my reality beyond that of your senses?

(С.) -I don’t know,

(М.) — Why do you doubt your senses?

(С.) — Because a little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them cheats. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are! You see this toothpick?

(М.) — I do.

(С.) — You are not looking at it.

(М.) — But I see it. (С.) — Well! Humbug, I tell you! humbug!

(С.) — Mercy! Dreadful apparition, why do you trouble me?

(М.) — Man of the worldly mind! Do you believe in me or not?

(C.) — I do. I must. But why do spirits walk the earth, and why do they come to me?

(М.) — It is required of every man that the spirit within him should walk among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide, you can’t do so after death.

(С.) — You are fettered. Tell me why?

(М.) — I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link, and yard by yard and of my own free will I wore it. Is its pattern strange to you? Or would you know the weight and length of the chain you bear yourself? It was full as heavy and as long as this, seven Christmas Eves ago. You have laboured on it, since.

(C.) — Seven years dead and travelling all the time!

(М.) — The whole time. No rest, no peace.

(С.) — You travel fast?

(М.) — On the wings of the wind. At this time of the rolling year I suffer most. Hear me! My time is nearly gone. I am here to-night to warn you, that you have a chance and hope of escaping my fate. You will be haunted by Three Spirits. Expect the first tomorrow, when the bell tolls One.

(С.) -Couldn’t I take them all at once and have it over, Jacob?

(М.) — Expect the second on the next night at the same hour. The third upon the next night when you hear the last stroke of Twelve. Look to see me no more; and for your own sake, you remember what has passed between us!

(С.) — Why, it isn’t possible that I can have slept through a whole day and far into another night. It isn’t possible that anything has happened to the sun, and this is twelve at noon.

(С.) — Are you the Spirit, sir, whose coming was foretold to me?

(П.1)- I am.

(С.) — `Who, and what are you.

(П.1) — I am the Ghost of Christmas Past. Your past. Rise and walk with me.

(C.) — I am mortal and liable to fall.

(П.1) — Bear but a touch of my hand there,’ said the Spirit, laying it upon his heart,’ and you shall be upheld in more than this.’

(С.) — Good Heaven! I was bred in this place. I was a boy here. Let us go on. It’s Ali Baba. It’s dear old honest Ali Baba. Yes, yes, I know. One Christmas time, when I was left here all alone, he did come, for the first time, just like that. And Valentine and his wild brother, Orson; there they go. There’s the Parrot. Green body and yellow tail, there he is. Poor Robin Crusoe, he called him, when he came home again after sailing round the island. `Poor Robin Crusoe, where have you been, Robin Crusoe? Poor boy. I wish (вынимает платок из кармана и вытирает глаза) but it’s too late now.

(П.1) — What is the matter?

(С.) — Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something: that’s all.

(П.1) — Let us see another Christmas.

(С.) – Spirit, remove me from this place.

(П.1) — I told you these were shadows of the things that have been. That they are what they are, do not blame me.

(С.) — Remove me. I cannot bear it.

(П.2) — Come in. Come in. and know me better, man. I am the Ghost of Christmas Present. Look upon me. You have never seen the like of me before.

(С.) — I don’t think I have. Have you had many brothers, Spirit?

(П.2) — More than eighteen hundred.

(С.) — A tremendous family to provide for. Spirit, conduct me where you will. I went forth last night and I learnt a lesson which is working now. To-night, if you have to teach me, let me profit by it.

(П.2) — Touch my robe.

A Merry Christmas to us all, my dears. God bless us.

God bless us every one.

(С.) — Spirit, tell me if Tiny Tim will live.

(П.2) — I see a vacant seat in the poor chimney-corner, and a crutch without an owner. If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, the child will die.

(С.) — Oh, no, kind Spirit. say he will be spared.

(П.2) — If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, none other of my race will find him here.

Mr. Scrooge. I’ll give you Mr Scrooge, the Founder of the Feast.

(Жена Боба) — The Founder of the Feast indeed. I wish I had him here. I’d give him a piece of my mind to feast upon, and I hope he’d have a good appetite for it. I’ll drink his health for your sake and the Day’s, not for his. Long life to him. A merry Christmas and a happy new year. He’ll be very merry and very happy, I have no doubt.

(С.) — I am in the presence of the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. You are about to show me shadows of the things that have not happened, but will happen in the time before us. Is that so, Spirit?

(С.) — Ghost of the Future I fear you more than any spectre I have seen. But as I know your purpose is to do me good, and as I hope to live to be another man from what I was, I am prepared to bear you company, and do it with a thankful heart. Will you not speak to me?

(С.) — Lead on. The night is waning fast, and it is precious time to me, I know. Lead on, Spirit.

(С.) — Before I draw nearer to that stone to which you point, answer me one question. Are these the shadows of the things that Will be, or are they shadows of things that May be, only?

(С.) — Ebenezer Scrooge. Am I that man who lay upon the bed in the room? No, Spirit. Oh no, no. Spirit, hear me. I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been. Why show me this, if I am past all hope Good Spirit, Your nature pities me. Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me. I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. Oh, tell me I may sponge away the writing on this stone.

(С.) — I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. Oh Jacob Marley. Heaven, and the Christmas Time be praised for this. I say it on my knees, old Jacob, on my knees. (прыгает и кружится по комнате) I don’t know what to do. I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a schoolboy. I am as giddy as a drunken man. A merry Christmas to everybody. A happy New Year to all the world. Hallo here. Whoop. Hallo.

(С.) — What’s to-day? What’s to-day, my fine fellow.

To-day. Why, Christmas Day.

(С.) — It’s Christmas Day. I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can. Hallo, my fine fellow. Do you know the Poulterer’s, in the next street but one, at the corner?

I should hope I did.

(С.) — Do you know whether they’ve sold the prize Turkey that was hanging up there — Not the little prize Turkey: the big one.

The one as big as me. It’s hanging there now.

(C.) -Is it. Go and buy it and tell them to bring it here, that I may give them the direction where to take it.. I’ll send it to Bob Cratchit’s. He shan’t know who sends it. It’s twice the size of Tiny Tim.

1) — Scrooge and Marley’s, I believe.

(С.) — My dear sir (берет его за руки ), how do you do. I hope you succeeded yesterday. It was very kind of you. A merry Christmas to you, sir.

1) — Mr Scrooge.

(С.) – Yes, that is my name, and I fear it may not be pleasant to you. Allow me to ask your pardon

1) — Dear Mr Scrooge, are you serious?

(C.) — If you please. Not a farthing less. Will you do me that favour?

2) — My dear sir, I don’t know what to say to this.

(С.) — Don’t say anything please. Come and see me. Will you come and see me?

2) — I will. Thank you. I am much obliged to you. I thank you fifty times. Bless you.

(С.) — Hallo. What do you mean by coming here at this time of day.

I am very sorry, sir. I am behind my time.

(С.) – You are. Yes. I think you are. Step this way, sir, if you please.

It’s only once a year, sir. It shall not be repeated. I was making rather merry yesterday, sir.

(С.) — Now, I’ll tell you what, my friend, I am not going to stand this sort of thing any longer. And therefore, I am about to raise your salary A merry Christmas, Bob.

Ведущий — Scrooge was better than his word. He did it all, and infinitely more; and to Tiny Tim, who did not die, he was a second father. He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew in the good old world. Some people laughed to see this change in him, but he let them laugh. His own heart laughed: and that was quite enough for him.

When Christmas comes”.

A Russian girl is sitting in am armchair and reading a book of fairy-tales.

Her mother calls her.

Mother: Stop reading books, dear, New Year is coming. Help me to lay the table, please.

Russian girl: Just a moment, Mum. It’s my favourite tale. I wish I were there in the
fairy-tale.

Music. Lights go down.

A group of children is singing Christmas carol “Holy night”.

Silent night,
Holy night,
All is calm
All is bright
Round yon virgin mother and child,
Holy infant so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace.
In the forest. (slide “Winter Forest”)

Russian girl is looking around her with great interest.

Russian girl: Where am I? I can’t believe my eyes. Is it a fairy-tale? Oh, it’s
cold here. Where shall I go?

A white rabbit appears on the stage. He is in a hurry. He is looking at his watch
and taking it in and out of his waistcoat.

Rabbit: Oh, dear, oh dear! I’ll be too late!

Russian girl: What? A rabbit with a pocket and a watch in it? Of course, I’m in a
tale. Who’s ever seen a rabbit with a watch?

Children on the other side of the stage:

  1. A cat went to town to buy a hat.
What? A cat with a hat? A hat for a cat?
Who’s ever seen a cat in a hat?
  2. A cock went to town to buy a clock.
What? A cock with a clock? A clock for a cock?
Who’s ever seen a cock with a clock?
  3. A bear went to town to buy a chair.
What? A bear with a chair? A chair for a bear?
Who’s ever seen a bear with a chair?
  4. A dog went to town to buy a log?
What? A dog with a log? A log for a dog?
Who’s ever seen a dog with a log?
  5. An owl went to town to buy a towel.
What? An owl with a towel? A towel for an owl?
Who’s ever seen an owl with a towel?
  6. A hen went to town to buy a pen.
What? A hen with a pen? A pen for a hen?
Who’s ever seen a hen with a pen?

Russian girl: Mister Rabbit, wait for me, please!

Music.

Lights go down.

Queen’s palace. (slide “Palace”)

The Queen is sitting at the desk. There is a blackboard near the desk. Rabbit comes
through the gates and runs into the palace. The Russian girl enters and hides nearby.

Rabbit: Good evening, Your Majesty! I am on time (bows). Let’s start our lesson. May
I ask you to write down four irregular verbs?

Queen: All right. Dictate!

Rabbit:

Break-broke-broken
Speak-spoke-spoken
Begin-began-begun

Chancellor comes.

Chancellor: Good evening, Your Majesty! May I ask you to put Your signature? To four
edicts only.

Queen: Write! Well! But then I won’t write – begin-began-begun. Give me your
papers!

Chancellor: Thank you very much, Your Majesty!

Queen: And what shall I write?

Chancellor: Either “execute” or “forgiveness”.

Queen (counts): E-xe-cu-te, for-gi-ve-ness. I shall write “execute” – it is
shorter.

Russian girl comes out: Stop it! What have you written?

Queen: Who are you? How dare you speak to me like this? I am your Queen.

Russian girl: You executed a person and didn’t think about him!

Queen: But I can’t write and think at the same time!

Russian girl: It isn’t necessary. First you should think and then you should write.

Queen: If I do that, I shall think and think and think and then I’ll go mad.

Russian girl: Nonsense! And besides, you are not my Queen. I am not from here. I am
from Russia.

Queen: Russia? Where is it? Oh, I know, your people live on the other side of the Earth
and they walk with their heads downward.

Russian girl: Do you study at school? You don’t know Geography at all. (slide “The
map of Russia”)Russia is the largest country in the world with a long and interesting
history and culture. Do you know how Russian people celebrated Christmas traditionally?

A group of children is going around the hall and singing Russian folk songs.

Russian girl: Russian people made up a lot of fairy-tales. One of them we prepared for
you in a modern version. Can you guess the tale?

A group of teachers performs “Turnip” (appendix).

Queen: Why should I know it? Mr. Rabbit knows it well.

Rabbit: It’s Russian folk-tale “The Turnip”. But I hardly guessed it.

Queen: As for me I know Math.

Russian girl (writing at the blackboard): How much is six multiplied by six?

Queen: Six times six is eleven. Mr. Rabbit, is it OK?

Rabbit (sadly): OK, Your Majesty.

Russian girl (writing): Multiply eight by eight, please.

Queen: Three.

Russian girl: Awful!

Queen: And I know Biology very well.

Russian girl: Then answer, when do snowdrops appear in the forest?

Rabbit whispers: In April.

Queen: Snowdrops? Of course, in December, because snow falls in December.

Snowflakes dance.

Russian girl: You are wrong. It’s impossible. Snowdrops blossom in April.

Queen: OK. I want April now. I like snowdrops very much. I have never seen them.

Rabbit: April will come soon. You have to wait only three months or 90 days.

Queen: 90 days! But I can’t wait! Tomorrow we are going to have a New Year’s party.
I want to have snowdrops for this party.

Rabbit (sadly): Your Majesty, you can’t break the law of Nature.

It’s winter now….

Music (winter) (slide “Winter”)

Rabbit: Then comes spring with the first dripping of melted snow and snowdrops…

Music (spring) (slide “Spring”)

Rabbit: After spring comes bright summer….

Music (summer) (slide “Summer”)

Rabbit: And then comes golden autumn with a lot of fruit and vegetables, rains and
winds.

Music (autumn) (slide “Autumn”)

Queen: I’ll promulgate a new law of Nature! Mr. Rabbit! Sit down and write! I’ll
dictate to you. “The grass is green.

The sun is bright.

There are a lot of flowers in our forest. Bring a basket of snowdrops to our palace for
the New Year’s party! “A full basket of gold is awaiting you!” Chancellor!

Chancellor comes.

Queen: Set my seal and proclaim my order!

Chancellor: But Your Majesty…

Queen: This is my order!

Lights go down.

Music.

In the forest. (slide “Winter forest”).

It’s freezing. A giant caterpillar is sitting under the tree covered with snow.

Mr.Rabbit and Russian girl are standing and hesitating in which direction to go.

Rabbit: Let’s go this way. Frosty the famous snowman lives here. I hope he can help
us.

Russian girl: I am so tired. What’s the use of looking for snowdrops in winter. Where
can I sit down?

Russian girl tries to sit down on a giant caterpillar but jumps up and cries.

Russian girl: What is it? Dear me! It’s a snake!

Caterpillar: First of all can’t you be more polite and stop sitting on a delicate
caterpillar?

Russian girl: Caterpillar in winter! It’s incredible!

Caterpillar: Stop talking nonsense. Can’t you see? It’s me. What are you doing here
on Christmas Eve?

A group of children is singing Christmas carol “Away in a manger”.

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed

The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.

The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay

The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Russian girl: We are looking for snowdrops.

Caterpillar: Isn’t it more incredible to look for snowdrops in winter?

Russian girl: Certainly it is. Am I going mad?

Caterpillar: Why haven’t you said before you are going crazy? I am sure only Rudolf
can help you – he is also an extraordinary creature. You have to go that way. (Show them
the way).

Russian girl: Thank you. Bye.

Rabbit: Thank you Miss (kisses her hand). Shall we meet one day?

Carterpillar: Put down my phone number, ducky. (Hugs and kisses him).

Lights go down. Music.

In the forest.

Lights go up. Russian girl and Mr. Rabbit are going through the forest.

Chorus. Song “Rudolf the Red-Nose Reindeer”.

Rudolf, the red-nosed reindeer
Had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw it
Used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolf
play in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say,
«Rudolf with your nose so bright,

you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer

Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?»

Then how the reindeer loved him,
As they shouted out with glee:
«Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer,
you’ll go down in history!»

Rudolf appears. Russian girl and Mr. Rabbit run to him.

Rabbit: Mr. Rudolf we are so glad to see you. Can you help us to find snowdrops.

Rudolf: Snowdrops? What a strange idea! I can manage to get moss and lichen for you.

Russian girl: But we need snowdrops very much.

Rudolf: You need a real magician, you need Santa.

Russian girl: Where is he? Tell us, please, we are in a hurry.

Rudolf: I can’t tell you. He is very busy now, he is preparing Christmas gifts for
children. That’s why nobody knows where he is. But you can ask Frosty.

Rabbit: Who is Frosty?

Chorus. Song “Frosty, The Snowman”.

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a carrot nose,
And two eyes made of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say.
He was made of snow but the children know
How he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that
Old silk hat they found,
For they put it on his head
He began to dance around!

O, Frosty the snowman,
Was alive as he could be!
And the children say he could
Laugh and play
Just the same as you and me.
Thumpety thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go!
Thumpety thump thump
Thumprty thump thump
Over the hills of snow…

Frosty (appears): Who called me?

Russian girl: Dear Frosty, can you show us the way to Santa’s house. We need his
help. It’s Christmas Eve now and we’d like to get a basket of snowdrops on Christmas
Day.

Frosty: What strange presents do people want to have on Christmas! OK, if you guess my
riddles, I’ll show you the way.

Russian girl: We’ll try and I think children will help us (to the audience). Will you
help us to guess Frosty’s riddles?

Frosty:

It’s blue by night,
By day it’s white.
It is cold and not dry,
It falls from the sky. (Snow)

Fat and gay, on a winter day,
He came here with us to stay.
But day by day he grew sad and thin,
And so we brought his younger brother in. (A calendar)

In winter and in summer
They stand in one colour. (A fir-tree and a pine)

This is the season
When children ski
And Santa brings
The bright Christmas tree. (Winter)

Frosty: Let’s go that way. I’ll follow you, you can lose yourselves. (They are
going away).

Music. Chorus “I wish I were a snowman”

I wish I were a Snowman,
So tall and big and white.
I’d never have to clean my teeth,
Or go to bed at night.
But maybe Mister Snowman
Is wishing he were me,
For I’ll be here when summer comes,
But where will the Snowman be?

Music. Song “Christmas is coming..”

Christmas is coming
The goose is getting fat
Please, to put a penny
In an old man’s hat
Please to put a penny
In an old man’s hat.
If you have no penny
A half-penny can do
If you have no half-penny
Then God bless you.

Lights go down.

Santa’s house. (slide “Santa’s house”).

Santa Claus is picking up his bag.

Santa: A new nose for Rudolf, a new broom for Frosty, a beautiful hat for the
caterpillar, a basket of snowdrops for the Queen. What else? Ah, they are coming. We’ll
see if they gain their presents.

All: Santa, hello. Help us, please!

Santa: All right! I’ve just learnt a new and very modern dance. If you dance with me
I’ll make all your wishes come true.

Dance. Everybody is dancing.

The clock strikes.

Santa: Christmas has come!

Song “We wish you a Merry Christmas…” (All participants).

We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy New Year!
Good tidings for you
Wherever you are
Good tidings for Christmas and a happy New Year!

THE END.

(Narrator 1,
Narrator 2)

1

Inside a snow flake like the one on your sleeve,

There happened a story you must see to believe.

2

Way up in the mountains in the high range of Pontoos
Lay the small
town of Whoville—the home of the Whos!

1

Ask any who and they’ll have this to say

«There’s no place like
Whoville around Christmas Day.»

2

Every window was flocked,

Every lamppost was dressed,

and the Whoville Band marched

In their Christmasy best.

1

Arbor Day was fine and Easter was pleasant

And every St. Fizzin’s Day they ate a fizz pheasant.

2

But every Who knew,

From their 12 toes to their snout,

They loved Christmas the most

Without a single Who doubt

1

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St.
Nicholas soon would be there;

Merry
Christmas!

2

Not yet!

Every Who Down in Whoville Liked Christmas a lot…

But the Grinch, Who lived just north of Whoville, did not!

The Grinch

)

I don’t like your Christmas!

The whole Christmas season!

Don’t ask me, “Why?“.

I don’t know the reason.

I despise lovely sweet and horrible children.

I have filled my huge sack

With your whole-hearted gifts.

I
think you should know,

They will
never be given
.

I have stolen your Christmas,

You will never return it.

You will be unhuppy, you’ll cry anyway!

You’ll never be able to find Christmas day!

Where
are you Christmas?
»

«

Where
are you Сhristmas?
Why can’t I find you?
Why have you gone
away?

My
world is changing.
I’m rearranging.

Does
that mean Christmas changes too?

Where
are you Сhristmas?
Do you remember?
The girl you used to
know..

You
and I were so carefree.
Now nothing’s easy.

Did
Christmas change?
Or just me?…

Pupil 1

Are you
scared of Grinch?

Pupil 2

Yes, I am.
He’s really terrible and extremely
dangerous
.

Pupil 3

Yes! And I know Grinch
makes giant snowballs and threw them.

Pupil 1

I’m freezing!

My nose is like a big ice potato!

Pupil 2

I’m hungry and frightened

Pupil 4

My friends, do you remember why we are here?

Grinch has stolen our Christmas!

Stop crying! We must find it and return to our town.

Let’s go!

It’s
funny how some distance,
Makes everything seem small.
And the
fears that once controlled us, can’t get to us at all!
It’s time
to see what we can do,
To test the limits and break through.
No
right, no wrong,

We’re
singing our song.
We’re strong!

Let it snow, let it snow!
We’re together with the
wind and sky.
Let it snow, let it snow!
Grinch will never see
us cry.
Here we’ll stand, and here we’ll stay.
Let the storm
rage on!

Pupil 3

We’ll find our Christmas anyway!!!!

Pupil 5

Look over there! Be careful!!!! That’s his dark
cave!!!!

Pupil 6

Grinch, get out and give us our Christmas!!!!

And all our gifts too!!!!

Grinch

Ho, ho,
ho!

These are your presents! You are nasty little kids!

Pupil 6

What terrible wind!

It’s a real snowstorm!

(Все

Help!

Santa
Claus

My dear friends, you are fighting and arguing!

Why don’t you remember such important words like
friendship, kindness and love?

I am sure they can make change anyone (even the Grinch)!

Pupil 7

Grinch!

We are really so sorry for making up different stories
about you!

And we really want to make friends with you!

We
invite you to our town to celebrate.

No one should be alone on Christmas Day!

Grinch

Ooooook!! Let’s celebrate! let’s sing and dance!!!!

Santa
Claus

Have you found your Christmas, my dear!!!!

Pupil 3

Yes, Santa Claus!

We have!!!

Santa
Claus

Christmas is here!
Everywhere, oh!
Christmas is
here!
If you care, oh!
If there is love in your heart and your
mind,
You will feel like Christmas all the time !!!!

Афиша: “Join in caroling at our school assembly hall following the Christmas tea and dancing party at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7. The celebration is here! Come sing Christmas carols with Angels! Make your holiday bright with the personages of the Holy Night, the Three Kings, Befana, Madlen and real Santa! Wishing you the most joyful holiday season! Merry Christmas! Songbooks are free and available.”

The herald angels sing,

Glory to the newborn king!

Peace on Earth and mercy mild

God and sinners reconciled!

Angel 2:

Joyful, all the nations, rise,

Join the triumph of the skies,

With angelic host proclaim,

Christ is born in Bethlehem!

Angel 3 :

Hark! The herald angels sing

Glory to the newborn King!

Silent Night”.

Angel 4:

Good Christian men, rejoice!

With heart and soul and voice!

Now hear of endless bliss!

Joy! Joy! Jesus Christ was born for this!

Angel 5:

Good Christian men, rejoice!

With heart and soul and voice!

Give heed to what we say

News! News! Jesus Christ is born today!

What Child is this”.

1:   Good morning to you, old woman! Tell us, what country is it? And what is your name, kind woman?

B:  This is Italy and my name is Bephana.

2:   And we’re the three Kings– Gaspar, Melhior and Baltaras. Angels are singing Christ is born today. Be so kind; show us the way there.

B:  Oh, no! I’m so busy today. I can’t show you the way! Don’t ask me, I see no reason to leave my housework!

3:   OK, we’ll find the way to that holy place. But you’ll be punished for that. From now and on every Christmas you will roam about the country trying to find Christ’s holy face among the children’s.

I’ve come here to fall on my knees before my King, but I’m so poor, that I have nothing to give him.

Angel: Take these Christmas roses, my poor girl.

Все исполняют песню “What Child Is This” ещё раз, пока Мадлен дарит розы.

Angel 6: Today is Christmas Eve. Look! Everything is rush and hustle! Streets are decorated with lights. In homes there is a great air of expectation. Children are decorating Christmas trees and preparing Christmas socks.

Angel 7: Oh, hush! Can you hear those bells? That is Santa with his red–nosed reindeer Rudolph coming.

Angel 8 :

Rudolph, the red–nosed reindeers

Had a very shiny nose,

And if you ever saw it,

You would even say it glows!

Angel 9 :

All the other reindeer

Used to laugh and call him names,

They never let poor Rudolph

Join in any reindeer games!

Angel 10:

Then one foggy Christmas Eve

Santa came to say…

Rudolph with your nose so bright

Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?

Angel 11:

Then how the reindeer loved him

As they shouted out with glee

Rudolph, the red–nosed Reindeer

You’ll go down in history!

Santa: OK, OK! Those chimneys are so dirty! All are sleeping. Who’s there? Jonnie–boy. Let’s see if he is good that Jonnie. Oh, yes. He helps his little sister to tie her shoes, he doesn’t forget to feed the homeless cat and he behaves well at school. So, get your Christmas gift. Merry Christmas! Bye!

Angel 12: Santa is hurrying to other kids. He will give out his gifts to all good boys and girls, moms and dads, cats and dogs.

Deck the Halls”

Merry Christmas!

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night,

All is calm all is bright.

Round youn virgin mother and child

Holy infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace (2).

Silent night, holy night

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia

Christ, the Savior is born (2).

“What Child is this”?

What child is this who laid to rest

On Mary’s lap is sleeping?

Whom angels greet with anthems sweet

While shepherds watch are keeping?

This, this is Christ the king

Whom shepherds guard and angels sing,

This, this is Christ the king

The babe the son of Mary.

O, Christmas tree!

O, Christmas tree, O, Christmas tree! 2 раза

O, tree of green, unchanging!

Your boughs, so green in summer time

Do brave the snow of wintertime.

O, Christmas tree, O, Christmas tree

O, tree of green, unchanging!

Like little stars your candles bright

Send to the world a wondrous light!

Jingle Bells!

Dashing thro’ the snow

In a one–horse open sleigh

O’the hills we go

Laughing all the way!

Bells on bobtail ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to run and sing

A sleighing song tonight!

Jingle bells, jingle bells,

Jingle all the way!

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one–horse open sleigh!

Deck the halls

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Fa–la–la–la–la–la–la–la–la.

‘Tis the reason to be jolly

Fa–la–la–la–la–la–la–la–la.

Sing we joyous all together

Fa–la–la–la–la–la–la–la–la.

Heedless of the wind and weather

Fa–la–la–la–la–la–la–la–la!

Well, our lesson is over. We’ve made a lot, we’ve learned a lot and now we are singing together. I think everybody knows and likes this Christmas song “Jingle Bells”.

Jingle bells

Dashing through the snow

In a one horse open sleigh

O’er the fields we go

Laughing all the way

Bells on bob tails ring

Making spirits bright

What fun it is to laugh and sing

A sleighing song tonight!

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

A day or two ago

I thought I‘d take a ride

And soon Miss Fanny Bright

Was seated by my side

The horse was lean and lank

Misfortune seemed his lot

We got into a drifted bank

And then we got upset

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh yeah

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one horse open sleigh

Оборудование: карточки с текстами «Merry Christmas», аудиокассета с записью песни «I wish I were a Snowman», 3 набора предложений (стихотворение, разрезанное по строчкам); задание на карточках для конкурса 1.

Teacher: Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you.

 Say: «Hello!»

And clap your hands!

Don’t say: «No!»

And, please, say: «Yes!»

— Today we shall find out how people celebrate the New Year in different countries. I want you to divide into three teams and then we shall start our work.

There will be three teams today. And two pupils or judges will help me to check up your answers. Let’s start our competition with the song «Jingle, Bells». Will you stand up and sing the song all together?

-Read the short texts how people celebrate the New Year in different countries and choose the correct version.

Choose the correct version:

In this city a lot of people gather in Times Square and watch the «Big Apple» fall. The «Big Apple» isn’t a real apple. It’s a moving picture of an apple on a side Madrid of one of the big buildings in Times Square. Every New Year’s Eve during the last few seconds before midnight, it starts to «fall» down the building, and when it gets to the bottom it’s the start of the new year. (Madrid, New York, Moscow)

In this country housewives start to cook special food for the New Year’s Day and the members of the families do a big cleaning up. The idea is to get rid of the the past year dirt, and welcome the new. On the television or on the radio you can hear 108 bells. The 10811 bell rings just a second before the midnight. The people say: «Happy New Year!» People eat the special food and drink rice wine during the meal. (Japan, Italy, Canada)

People call the New Year’s Eve «Hogmanay». They visit their friends’ houses just after midnight on the New Year’s night. The first person who comes to your house brings you luck. At midnight when the clock begins to strike twelve, the head of the family goes to the entrance door, opens it wide and holds it until the last stroke. Then he shuts the door. He has let the old year out and let the New Year in. (The USA, Scotland, India)

This country is sometimes called «the upside down world». It lies in the Southern Hemisphere. During the Christmas holidays people often sunbathe on the beach or swim and surf in the ocean. On the

31 st

of December many people go to the country for the picnic. In January the temperature ranges from 20 to 30 ‘C above zero or higher. (Egypt, Ireland, Australia)

In this country it can be dangerous to have a walk at night at the end of December. People usually throw the old things from the house through the window: broken cups and plates, old clothes and boots and sometimes different pieces of furniture. At the New Year’s Eve the magician Befaniya comes to the houses through the chimney and put the presents for the children in their stockings or shoes. (France, Italy, Germany)

Keys: I — New York; 2 — Japan; 3 — Scotland; 4 — Australia 5 — Italy.

But maybe Mister Snowman

Wishes he were me,

For I’ll be here when summer comes,

But where will the Snowman be?

It’s time for the last task now. I want you to put the words in their logical order and read the poem.

Every little girl would like to be

The fairy on the Christmas tree.

Up above the party, dressed in white,

Shining in the candle light.

Every little boy has lots of fun

With his trumpet and his gun.

Every little girl, you understand,

Is really the queen of the fairy land.

There is little secret she must keep

That she can fly when she’s asleep.

That’ll do for today. You were active today. Now we shall decide who is the winner of our competition.

Good morning, when it’s morning,

Good night, when it’s night,

And when it’s time to go away

Good-bye, good-bye, good-bye.

Good-bye, my dear friends!

That is why I know you are so bad.

You have come for a lesson, I’m glad.
