Как создавался фильм[]

Поместье Спайдервик как герой фильма[]

Поместье Спайдервик – это вполне самостоятельный герой фильма. То, что поначалу кажется отдаленным и мрачным домом, давно нуждающимся в ремонте, открывается с удивительной и загадочной стороны. В стенах живут странные создания; еще более странные существа пытаются украсть старый «Путеводитель», наследие владельца дома Артура Спайдервика, который жил здесь со своей дочерью Люсиндой, а потом бесследно исчез, и его признали умершим. Так что художнику-постановщику Джиму Бисселлу было где развернуться – он должен был показать старый дом во всей красе, отметив все, что в нем есть особенного.

«Артур Спайдервик построил дом в начале двадцатого века, — объясняет Бисселл. – Он – выходец из Новой Англии, натуралист по образованию. Бисселл обратился к работам дизайнера конца девятнадцатого века Уильяма Морриса, известного своими органическими мотивами. Вторым источником вдохновения были сами книги. «Это фантастические книжки. Мне они хорошо знакомы, потому что мои дети их очень любят, и именно это и привлекло меня к этому проекту. Иллюстрации Тони, его рисунки карандашом и тушью – просто потрясающие. Так что когда я делал дизайн фильма, я повесил их на стену в качестве источника вдохновения и всегда находил в них то, что мне нужно», — говорит художник.

Дом должен был отражать интерес Артура Спайдервика к волшебному миру. Создателям фильма предстояло найти какое-то хорошо изолированное место в Монреале, где снималась картина. «Мы нашли прекрасную поляну в парке Кэп-Сент-Жак, и там была небольшая хижина, построенная в пятидесятые годы. Городские власти разрешили нам снести ее и построить дом для съемок», — вспоминает Бисселл.

Компания построила каркас дома. «Там было четыре этажа и башня – настоящий дом в лесу, в котором тоже снимались некоторые сцены. Кроме того, мы построили нижний этаж, холл, гостиную, библиотеку и лестницу на второй этаж. И еще мы сделали окна второго и третьего этажа и интерьер башни, куда постоянно забираются дети. В студии были построены интерьеры первого этажа для всех сложных сцен со спецэффектами, в которых Мулгарат врывается в дом, а гоблины устраивают свою последнюю битву. «Мы также построили второй этаж, где находятся спальни детей, и сделали опушку гоблинов, с огромным дубом, где мы в первый раз видим Мулгарата», — объясняет Бисселл.

Для Бисселла «Спайдервик: Хроники» — это фильм об открытиях. «Это картина о том, как городские дети исследуют природу, свою семью и ее наследие. О переходе от их воображения к миру, который они никогда не знали – миру логики, разума, опасности и магии. Все эти элементы были использованы при создании поместья Спайдервик».

Больше всего сложностей Бисселл испытывал с временами года и погодой. Съемки начались в конце лета и закончились в начале зимы. «Мы сделали 60 деревьев высотой от шести до девяти метров, с разной листвой и разных цветов. В конце лета деревья были зеленые, потом мы добавили несколько деревьев с осенней листвой, и так далее».

Бутафор Клэр Алари отмечает, что «Путеводитель» — это самая важная вещь в фильме, потому что она является основным источником сюжета и причиной всего этого хаоса. Художественный отдел действовал по составленному Джеймсом Бисселлом общему плану. В качестве моделей «Путеводителя» были использованы дневники и журналы начала двадцатого века. Уникальные персонажи – гоблины, домовые, боггарты и великаны – завораживали создателей фильма. Некоторые из них были просто очаровательны, другие же откровенно пугали. «Начало фильма даже напоминает фильм с привидениями, — говорит Киркпатрик. – В доме Грейс живет нечто, что напоминает «Ужас Амитивилля».

У домовых эльфов есть еще одна неприятная черта – когда они сердятся, они превращаются в боггартов (их второе, нехорошее «я»). Тимблтак похож на чайник, который готов закипеть в любой момент. «Он постоянно пытается сдерживать свой гнев, — объясняет специалист по визуальным эффектам Тим Александр. – Мы с ним всячески экспериментировали – делали так, что у него из головы шел зеленый пар, который он пытался загнать назад, потому что не хотел превращаться в боггарта».

«Занятно то, что он в чем-то похож на Джареда, когда он злится, — отмечает Киркпатрик. – Джаред тоже становится своего рода боггартом, и именно так он ведет себя, когда мы впервые его видим».

Роковой для детей Грейс фигурой стал злобный великан Мулгарат, у которого, как и у Тимблтака, одна цель – завладеть книгой. «Они с Тимблтаком – полные противоположности, — говорит специалист по спецэффектам Пабло Хельман. – Только Мулгарат – более сложное существо. Он не просто плохой парень; в волшебном мире вообще нет четкого разделения на черное и белое – цвет там скорее серый».

«Мы начали с типа Люцифера, или падшего ангела, — говорит Киркпатрик. – Мулгарат – проклятое существо, которое прекрасно сыграл Ник Нолт. Он – человек, который хочет больше власти, чем у него есть. Он вынужден жить среди гоблинов, которых считает идиотами. Если бы он смог узнать секреты книги, он получил бы возможность стать самым сильным существом в невидимом мире, и использовал бы эти секреты в дурных целях».

Мулгарат – искусный манипулятор, который способен управлять слабостями людей, появляясь во множестве обличий. Он окружил себя армией гоблинов, которых Киркпатрик описывает как «низшее звено пищевой цепочки волшебного мира. Они как шакалы, которые следуют за великаном и делают все, что он велит им делать».

Гоблинов возглавляет Красная Шапка, или гоблин-буйвол. «Он – мажордом Мулгарата, — говорит Типпетт. – Как сержант. Единственная проблема в том, что он – трус».

Еще одно создание, живущее в лесу, которое становится другом семье Грейс – это Хогсквил. «Он лесовик, а не гоблин, — напоминает Типпетт. – Он не любит, когда его называют гоблином – они стоят ниже его».

Хогсквил жаждет мести – Мулгарат убил всю его семью. Поэтому он помогает детям Грейс. Единственная проблема в том, что он трусоват. «Он весь кипит от жажды мести, но он маленькое существо, преувеличивающее свои возможности, — объясняет Киркпатрик. – Он считает, что его великие идеи должны воплощать другие, а он будет за этим только наблюдать».

Кроме того, он не слишком чистоплотен. «У него грязные уши, он все время почесывается и все такое», — говорит Типпетт. Именно плевок Хогсквила в глаз позволяет детям увидеть обитателей Невидимого мира – и детям приходится это терпеть. «Когда лесовик плюет вам в глаз, у вас сразу появляется «видение», — объясняет Киркпатрик. – Это позволяет вам увидеть Невидимый мир без магического камня. Все населяющие его создания уже не могут сделать себя невидимыми для вас».

Хогсквил неравнодушен к птицам. «Он просто не может на них спокойно смотреть – в этом смысле он раб желудка и сразу же забывает о своей мести», — продолжает Киркпатрик. К счастью, этот недостаток характера Хогсквила становится в конце фильма достоинством.

Еще два создания, с которыми встречаются дети Грейс – это добрые и красивые феи и сильфиды. Есть множество форм фей – водяные феи, которые могут принимать форму воды, феи-колибри и феи-цветы.

Феи-цветы прячутся в цветах и охраняют старую Люсинду. «Они приносят ей еду – ягоды, — говорит Киркпатрик. – Стоит тебе съесть еду, которую принесли тебе феи, ты уже не сможешь есть человеческую еду. Феи поддерживают в ней жизнь и рассказывают ей секреты про ее отца. Они охраняют ее».

Сильфиды, которые живут на прекрасной лужайке фей, защищали самого Артура Спайдервика. Они выглядят как семена одуванчика. Эти создания сами выбирают, кому показываться. «У зрителя возникает мысль о том, что после выхода из кинотеатра они, возможно, увидят фей на своей цветочной клумбе. Юные звезды «Спайдервика» — и взрослые тоже[]

Это как просмотр законченного фильма – ты понимаешь, что тебе ничего не грозит, но тебе страшно. Однако когда опасность минует, ты получаешь заряд адреналина, и тебе не терпится сыграть другую подобную сцену. Мы хотели, чтобы мир «Спайдервика» был как можно реальнее; чтобы там была настоящая опасность и восторг, и чтобы дети действительно сплотились, чтобы выжить».

У Хаймора очень большие ожидания по поводу законченного фильма. «Мне кажется, что детям понравится это путешествие в фантастический новый мир, страшный и волшебный. А родителям понравятся взрослые темы, эмоциональные падения и вершины, через которые проходит эта семья. Это хороший фильм для любого человека».

Сара Болджер, которая играет сестру Джареда и Саймона Мэллори, убеждена, что ее героиня – настоящая защитница братьев, хотя Джаред ее постоянно бесит. Эта ее черта усиливается, когда в их жизнь вторгается волшебный мир».

Я три недели тренировалась в Монреале, училась фехтованию и трюкам. А до этого я еще три или четыре недели тренировалась в Дублине».

Болджер нравились как сцены с экшном, так и диалоги. «Я большая поклонница и того, и другого. В сценах с драками я даже заработала несколько шрамов, но оно того стоило – это было ни с чем не сравнимое удовольствие. Но и диалоги мне тоже нравились, потому что они очень развернутые и реалистичные».

Были моменты, которые юная актриса вспоминает с меньшим удовольствием – это касается томатного сока и овсянки. Это сочетание губительно для гоблинов, однако после пары дней на площадке оно становится малоприятным и для людей. «В одной из сцен гоблины гонятся за нами, и мы должны ретироваться на кухню, чтобы защитить себя, — вспоминает она. – Так что мы заполняем духовку томатным соком и овсянкой и зажигаем ее, чтобы она взорвалась и убила их. Это была очень сложная сцена, но у нас все прекрасно получилось. Однако стояла ужасная вонь, и кухня была покрыта толстым слоем томатного сока. Это было чудовищно!»

Специалисты по визуальным эффектам[]

Поскольку в фильме так много необычных и сложных персонажей, не являющихся людьми, продюсеры понимали, что работу по их созданию нужно разделить между двумя компаниями по визуальным эффектам – Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) и Tippett Studio.

В основу дизайна этих персонажей легли рисунки Тони ДиТерлицци из оригинального «Путеводителя». «Книги стали прекрасными пособиями для Фила Типпетта (Tippett Studio) и Пабло Хельмана из ILM, а также для нашего художника-постановщика Джима Бисселла», — отмечает Пейтцман.

Основной задачей команды специалистов было превратить рисованных персонажей ДиТерлицци в трехмерную реальность. «Превратить рисунки Артура Спайдервика в то, что он видел собственными глазами, оживить эти наброски – вот что было нужно», — говорит Типпетт.

«Идеей оригинальной книги был союз природы и искусства», — объясняет Хельман. У персонажей Невидимого мира есть органическая база, давшая им жизнь. «Что касается остальных, — говорит Типпетт, — то они напоминают некоторых животных и птиц, то есть имеют антропоморфную основу» (например, Портняжка напоминает грызуна).
