«Судьба: Сага Винкс» — адаптационный сериал от Клуба Винкс, самой известной серии Иджинио Страффи. Произведен Rainbow S.r.l. совместно с Netflix. Сериал является ремейком всей истории оригинального мультсериала (первые три сезона).

В 2011 году в интервью журналу Screen International Иджинио Страффи впервые упомянул, что надеется адаптировать «Клуб Винкс» в живом действии. В качестве кастинг-директора выступила Кейт Рингселл. Кастинг был проведён в августе 2019 года. 17 сентября 2019 года стало известно, что Эбигейл Коуэн сыграет главную роль в проекте. Процесс съёмок сериала начался в Ирландии в сентябре 2019 года в Уиклоу и продлился до 13 декабря 2019. 2 февраля 2021 года была выпущена книга под названием «Путь феи» (англ. Fate: The Winx Saga is a teen drama television series based on the animated series Winx Club, created by Iginio Straffi.^[3] It is produced by Archery Pictures in association with Rainbow, a studio co-owned by Iginio Straffi and Viacom at the time.^[2] Developed by Brian Young, who also acts as the showrunner and executive producer, it stars Abigail Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt and Elisha Applebaum.^[4]

Iginio Straffi first proposed a live-action version of Winx Club in 2011, after Viacom, owner of Nickelodeon, became a co-owner of his studio and started financing his projects.^[5] Before approving production on the series, Straffi gained experience with live-action television working as a producer for Nickelodeon’s Club 57.^[6] Principal photography for Fate eventually began in September 2019 in Ireland.

Early in production, Nickelodeon’s American crew members from the cartoon, including Bloom’s voice actress, Molly Quinn,^[7] met with the Fate production team and reviewed the pilot script.^[7] Rainbow’s Joanne Lee also oversaw the show as an executive producer. Apart from them, the crew behind Fate is entirely new to the Winx franchise, and the writers were recruited from teen dramas like The Vampire Diaries.^[8]

The series features an ensemble cast based on the characters of the animated show. The six-episode first season debuted on Netflix on 22 January 2021 and was watched by 57 million subscribers in the first 28 days of its release.^[9] In February 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, which was released on 16 September 2022.^[10][11] In November 2022, the series was canceled after two seasons.^[12]

Premise

Bloom, a fairy with fire powers, enrolls at a magical boarding school in the Otherworld called Alfea. She shares a suite with Stella, a light fairy; Aisha, a water fairy; Terra, an earth fairy; and Musa, a mind fairy. With the help of her friends, Bloom starts to learn more about her past. Meanwhile, ancient creatures called the Burned Ones return to the Otherworld and threaten everyone at Alfea.

Season 1

Development

The idea for a live-action adaptation of Winx Club dates back to 2011. Winx Club creator Iginio Straffi first proposed a live version in May 2011, several months after Viacom, owner of Nickelodeon, became a co-owner of his studio Rainbow and started financing his projects.^[5][14] At the Ischia Global Fest in 2013, Straffi stated that he was still planning a production «with the Winx in flesh and blood, played by real actors. Sooner or later it will be done.»^[15] Straffi had only worked on animated productions at the time, so he transitioned his focus to live action, working as a producer for Nickelodeon’s live-action show Club 57.^[6]

In February 2016, Iginio Straffi mentioned that a live-action movie concept was being considered in partnership with Hollywood Gang Productions, but the project never proceeded.^[16] In March 2018, the idea was revisited as a television series after Netflix ordered a young-adult version for its streaming service.^[17] Straffi was involved in the early planning stages, and he declined a suggestion from Netflix for the male characters to be given larger roles.^[18]

After a pilot episode was scripted, Nickelodeon’s American crew members from the cartoon, including Bloom’s voice actress, Molly Quinn,^[7] travelled to meet the Fate production team and review the script.^[7] Francesco Artibani, one of the Italian writers of the animated version, was brought in to read the storyline.^[19] Rainbow’s Joanne Lee oversaw the first season as an executive producer.

The writers behind Fate are entirely new to the Winx franchise, and they were recruited from teen dramas like The Vampire Diaries.^[8] Brian Young, who worked on seven seasons of The Vampire Diaries,^[20] is the creator and showrunner of Fate: The Winx Saga.^[21] According to an interview with The Guardian, Young chose to «ditch the look» of the cartoon Winx fairies, who have big eyes and sparkling outfits. He said, «Look, again, I’m a massive manga anime fan… but nobody looks like that.»^[8] Some episodes of the first season were directed by Lisa James Larsson and Hannah Quinn.^[22][3][21]

Casting

Casting calls were held in August 2019.^[23][24] Abigail Cowen was announced to be headlining the series as Bloom in September 2019.^[25] «Bloom is a fire fairy who grew up in the first world, so she did not grow up in the other world. And she finds out, kind of by accident, that she has these powers,» said Cowen.^[26]

Hannah van der Westhuysen, who plays Stella, revealed «Stella is a very complex girl. She appears a certain way, but she’s actually a lot softer and she has a lot of barriers that need to be broken down.» Precious Mustapha, who plays Aisha, said, «Aisha is a water fairy. From the offset, she seems quite confident with her powers. But, ’cause she’s a perfectionist, she doesn’t think that’s good enough. She wants to always be developing.»

Eliot Salt, who plays Terra, added, «Terra’s power is all plant based. It’s growing things and sending them off after people. She is the most welcoming. She loves it. She loves to meet new people. She gives too much.»

Elisha Applebaum, who portrays Musa, said, «Musa is an empath. Her power is to feel everyone’s emotions, whether it’s nature or anything around. She’s just open and honest, but also she’s not honest with herself and she’s trying to learn how to do that.»

Danny Griffin, Sadie Soverall, Freddie Thorp, Eve Best, and Robert James-Collier were cast to play Sky, Beatrix, Riven, Farah Dowling, and Saul Silva in the series.^[27]

Filming

Filming of the first season began in County Wicklow, Ireland, in September 2019^[21] and concluded in December 2019.^[28] The primary filming locations included Killruddery House and Ardmore Studios in Bray.^[29][30][31] Some indoor scenes of the series were shot at Ashford Studios.^[32] Griffin, who plays Sky, said, «We had an incredible stunt crew who would take us through the steps very slowly and were really patient in the beginning. But it’s always a big struggle, because later it had to be fast and accurate.»^[33] Cowen, who plays Bloom, said, «Playing Bloom was interesting. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself because I knew that so many people are fans of the original Winx. It was a nerve-wracking but exciting and exhilarating experience.»^[34]

Westhuysen, who portrays Stella, revealed, «I made diaries, scrapbooks, and things like that. They are really nice to look back on and will be very helpful for filming season two.»^[35] Salt, who plays Terra, said, «I think what jumped out for me was just the range that everybody gets to do in the show, which is, I guess, quite unusual for most parts, but I think especially when you’re generally playing young women, and the fact that we get to do comedy and tragedy and action and there’s a lot to get your teeth into, so that’s what really stood out to me.»^[36] Mustapha, who plays Aisha, added, «I think the power of female friendship was something that really struck a chord with me, and I was like, ‘This will be really fun to do’ because we don’t often get shows that are centred around women, let alone five women, so that was something I was definitely really excited about being a part of.»^[36]

Music

Fate: The Winx Saga‘s music score was composed by Anne Nikitin, and the official playlist is available on Spotify, including 33 songs from various artists.^[37] Netflix also released a playlist for each fairy – Bloom’s Fire Playlist, Stella’s Light Playlist, Musa’s Mind Playlist, Aisha’s Water Playlist, Terra’s Earth Playlist, and Beatrix’s Air Playlist – on Spotify.^[38]

Season 2

Development

On 18 February 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a second season to consist of eight episodes.^[10] «The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it. As Bloom’s story continues to evolve, I can’t wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa! And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term…» said showrunner Brian Young.^[39] The second season, which ultimately consisted of seven episodes, released on 16 September 2022.^[11]

Young revealed the audience can expect Icy and Darcy, two of the Trix trio, if the show gets renewed for a season three.^[40]

Young added, «The benefit of a season 2 show is it gives you the ability to sort of expand the things that made season 1 great. We had more second-unit days, we had more VFX, more everything to be completely honest. We were able to really make the VFX sing to make the show feel like it’s the best version of itself that it can be.»^[41] Visual Effects supervisor David Houghton said, «In COVID times, it is difficult to rally as many extras as you would normally be able to. With some VFX help and some clever filming, we’re able to fill out our world.»

On Terra’s coming out moment, Salt said, «I was told it was going to happen quite early on in Season 1. So I knew that whole time, and I kept it quiet-ish. It’s so important, now more than ever, to see queer joy depicted on screen. In a setting where there’s so much else going on, it was nice to put all of that aside for a moment to say that this is great.»^[42] Young added, «Having Terra not be a canon character from the series gave us a little more leeway with her on the show. Audiences need to see people struggling, then coming out, then having a group of friends loving and supporting them. There’s wish fulfillment in that.»^[42]

Casting

On 20 July 2021, Paulina Chávez, Brandon Grace and Éanna Hardwicke were announced to be joining the series’s second season as Flora, Grey and Sebastian.^[43] Chávez said about Flora, «She’s very much a person that cares about people a lot, and that’s what makes her so easily lovable. She really controls the room when she’s in it, and that’s something that I had to learn to do. I’m a little shy.»^[44] She further recalled, «I remember when they actually announced it and there was a comment just like, ‘Guys, she’s Mexican. We won.'» Chávez said, «This is a big win for the Latino community. I’m in Ireland, what the hell?! Who would’ve thought this girl from El Paso would be here? It’s pretty cool.»^[41] Despite the whitewashing controversy, Applebaum returned as Musa.^[45]

On 27 July 2022, Miranda Richardson and Daniel Betts were announced to be replacing Lesley Sharp and Alex Macqueen as Rosalind Hale and Professor Ben Harvey, respectively.^[46] Sharp was not able to return to the series as she had other commitments scheduled and could not make the filming dates work.^[47]

Filming

The second season began filming in Ireland in July 2021, with filming concluding in November 2021.^[48] The Dublin Hellfire Club was one of the filming locations for the season. The scene featuring Cowen and Best in episode six was filmed with a body double. Farah’s lines were played through a massive speaker as Best was not present on set at the moment. Weeks later, she filmed her own parts in London in front of a green screen because of COVID-related hurdles.^[41] Houghton added, «Their wings aren’t just wings. Their kind of wings are made of various elemental forces, like water or light. They have to fly and then, at the end of it, they use their magical powers to blast the villain, who also has a magical effect all over his body. There were all those different elements in a scene that we had to shoot in 2 or 3 days on a set and then have green screen elements on top of that.» He revealed, «Every visual effect shot costs around £310,000, depending on the complexity of it.»^[41]

Cowen, who plays Bloom, said, «Everything is just kind of amped up. Through our costumes, our hair, our makeup, our characters feel more sure about themselves and are really coming into their own. New secrets are revealed, and it’s going to be really, really awesome. I’ve seen little clips, and it’s very cinematic. We’re really excited.» Mustapha, who plays Aisha, added, «I feel like this season, in particular, everyone has their own story. We’re not always together, and I think that’s gonna be really exciting to watch because I’ve not seen some of the things others have done.»^[41]

Westhuysen, who portrays Stella, revealed, «We’ll sometimes have two different crews at the same time, so in one day you could film a scene from episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 just doting between two different crews. And that’s a testament to how brilliant the crew is on this.»^[41] Applebaum, who portrays Musa, said, «Some of the stunt-y scenes I’ve had to do have been a bit more challenging because they’re not things I’ve done before. It’s definitely straining on the body. I’ve gone home and had an Epsom salt bath every single time I’ve done one, and then it’s off to the next.»

Talking about the fairy transformations in the final episode, Salt, who plays Terra, said, «It was so much fun. Going up in the little strings and having a man in a green suit spin me around with his hands was one of the most surreal things that has ever happened to me, and I enjoyed every second.»^[49] Thorp, who plays Riven, said, «I spend a lot of time with our stunt team, who are fantastic and all very experienced, in martial arts, stunt driving, and sword fighting.» About the fight scene in the ruins, he said, «It was amazing and epic to shoot because we did it in these old ruins, on top of this hill. It used to be where the Hellfire group used to meet, which is an old cult that had meetings in Ireland.»^[50]

Music

«Dark Side» by Neoni was used in the trailer of the second season.^[51] Taylor Swift’s «Wildest Dreams» was featured in a scene where Bloom and Sky are horse riding in a field.^[52]

Cancellation

On November 1, 2022, Brian Young announced that Netflix decided not to order another season,^[12] leaving the series on an unresolved cliffhanger.^[53]

Reception

Critical response

Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reported an approval rating of 40% based on 20 reviews, with an average rating of 5.2/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, «Flat, flimsy, and forgettable, Fate: The Winx Saga is a fantastical flop that fails to capture the magic of its source material.»^[54]

Caroline Framke of Variety criticized the series for relying too much on clichés and wrote that «while adapted from an animated show about friends that was largely targeted at pre-teens, it takes a page out of the Riverdale book by giving everything an ominous sheen of sexy intrigue».^[55] Joel Keller from Decider urged the audience to skip the series, stating that «while there’s nothing inherently terrible about Fate: The Winx Saga, there’s nothing about it that stands out. Also, do we need yet another dark and gritty remake of a beloved kids’ series?»^[56] Deirdre Molumby from Entertainment.ie praised the cast but criticized the plot and the poor CGI quality.^[57]

Petrana Radulovic of Polygon wrote that «Fate: The Winx Saga does create a compelling, nuanced plot. The worldbuilding is exciting, offering a spin on the animated series’ world of fairies and non-magical, sword-wielding Specialists.»^[58] Melissa Camacho of Common Sense Media criticized the diversity of the cast along with the teen angst shown in the series, but wrote that «Fate: The Winx Saga offers a story world that is easy to escape into, and easy to get caught up in, if you’re looking for a fantastical universe to explore.»^[59]

Viewership

The show peaked at #2 on Nielsen’s Streaming Charts on the week of 25 January with 918 million minutes in viewership, trailing only Bridgerton at 936 million.^[60][61] On 20 April 2021, Netflix reported that 57 million of its subscribers watched the first season of the series during the first 28 days of its release.^[62][63]

Controversy

The series received backlash over the casting of Applebaum as Musa, who was coded as East Asian and whose character design was based on Lucy Liu, as well as the apparent replacement of Flora, who was coded as Latina and whose character design was based on Jennifer Lopez, with a new white character named Terra.^[64][65]

In response to the backlash, Abigail Cowen said she was not involved in the casting but hoped that Flora would be introduced in the second season, saying «I do think diversity both in front of and behind the camera is vital and much-needed throughout the industry and internationally. So I think it’s important that we are having these conversations.» Brian Young has said Terra is the cousin of Flora, leaving Flora’s inclusion in the show a possibility.^[66] Elisha Applebaum, who plays Musa, also addressed the controversy. «It’s really sad to see that fans were upset with the casting. I wasn’t involved in the casting but I hope that what they’ve seen and how I’ve portrayed Musa was to their liking,» Elisha told Digital Spy.^[67]

Responding to the backlash to the casting whitewashing, Iginio Straffi said that Rainbow S.p.A. demanded that the ethnic diversity of Winx Club be respected in the live-action adaptation, but that Netflix chose to make different casting choices.^[68]

Tie-in novels

On 2 February 2021, a novelization of the first season, titled The Fairies’ Path, was released. It features bonus scenes and character backstories not seen on the show. It was written by Irish author Sarah Rees Brennan under the pen name Ava Corrigan.^[69]

On 16 August 2022, another novel, titled Lighting the Fire, was released. It features an original story not seen in the show, set before the events of the first season. It was again written by Sarah Rees Brennan, this time under her real name.^[70]

Fate: The Winx Saga is a teen drama television series based on the animated series Winx Club, created by Iginio Straffi.^[3] It is produced by Archery Pictures in association with Rainbow, a studio co-owned by Iginio Straffi and Viacom at the time.^[2] Developed by Brian Young, who also acts as the showrunner and executive producer, it stars Abigail Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt and Elisha Applebaum.^[4]

Iginio Straffi first proposed a live-action version of Winx Club in 2011, after Viacom, owner of Nickelodeon, became a co-owner of his studio and started financing his projects.^[5] Before approving production on the series, Straffi gained experience with live-action television working as a producer for Nickelodeon’s Club 57.^[6] Principal photography for Fate eventually began in September 2019 in Ireland.

Early in production, Nickelodeon’s American crew members from the cartoon, including Bloom’s voice actress, Molly Quinn,^[7] met with the Fate production team and reviewed the pilot script.^[7] Rainbow’s Joanne Lee also oversaw the show as an executive producer. Apart from them, the crew behind Fate is entirely new to the Winx franchise, and the writers were recruited from teen dramas like The Vampire Diaries.^[8]

The series features an ensemble cast based on the characters of the animated show. The six-episode first season debuted on Netflix on 22 January 2021 and was watched by 57 million subscribers in the first 28 days of its release.^[9] In February 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, which was released on 16 September 2022.^[10][11] In November 2022, the series was canceled after two seasons.^[12]

Premise

Bloom, a fairy with fire powers, enrolls at a magical boarding school in the Otherworld called Alfea. She shares a suite with Stella, a light fairy; Aisha, a water fairy; Terra, an earth fairy; and Musa, a mind fairy. With the help of her friends, Bloom starts to learn more about her past. Meanwhile, ancient creatures called the Burned Ones return to the Otherworld and threaten everyone at Alfea.

Development

The idea for a live-action adaptation of Winx Club dates back to 2011. Winx Club creator Iginio Straffi first proposed a live version in May 2011, several months after Viacom, owner of Nickelodeon, became a co-owner of his studio Rainbow and started financing his projects.^[5][14] At the Ischia Global Fest in 2013, Straffi stated that he was still planning a production «with the Winx in flesh and blood, played by real actors. Sooner or later it will be done.»^[15] Straffi had only worked on animated productions at the time, so he transitioned his focus to live action, working as a producer for Nickelodeon’s live-action show Club 57.^[6]

In February 2016, Iginio Straffi mentioned that a live-action movie concept was being considered in partnership with Hollywood Gang Productions, but the project never proceeded.^[16] In March 2018, the idea was revisited as a television series after Netflix ordered a young-adult version for its streaming service.^[17] Straffi was involved in the early planning stages, and he declined a suggestion from Netflix for the male characters to be given larger roles.^[18]

After a pilot episode was scripted, Nickelodeon’s American crew members from the cartoon, including Bloom’s voice actress, Molly Quinn,^[7] travelled to meet the Fate production team and review the script.^[7] Francesco Artibani, one of the Italian writers of the animated version, was brought in to read the storyline.^[19] Rainbow’s Joanne Lee oversaw the first season as an executive producer.

The writers behind Fate are entirely new to the Winx franchise, and they were recruited from teen dramas like The Vampire Diaries.^[8] Brian Young, who worked on seven seasons of The Vampire Diaries,^[20] is the creator and showrunner of Fate: The Winx Saga.^[21] According to an interview with The Guardian, Young chose to «ditch the look» of the cartoon Winx fairies, who have big eyes and sparkling outfits. He said, «Look, again, I’m a massive manga anime fan… but nobody looks like that.»^[8] Some episodes of the first season were directed by Lisa James Larsson and Hannah Quinn.^[22][3][21]

Casting

Casting calls were held in August 2019.^[23][24] Abigail Cowen was announced to be headlining the series as Bloom in September 2019.^[25] «Bloom is a fire fairy who grew up in the first world, so she did not grow up in the other world. And she finds out, kind of by accident, that she has these powers,» said Cowen.^[26]

Hannah van der Westhuysen, who plays Stella, revealed «Stella is a very complex girl. She appears a certain way, but she’s actually a lot softer and she has a lot of barriers that need to be broken down.» Precious Mustapha, who plays Aisha, said, «Aisha is a water fairy. From the offset, she seems quite confident with her powers. But, ’cause she’s a perfectionist, she doesn’t think that’s good enough. She wants to always be developing.»

Eliot Salt, who plays Terra, added, «Terra’s power is all plant based. It’s growing things and sending them off after people. She is the most welcoming. She loves it. She loves to meet new people. She gives too much.»

Elisha Applebaum, who portrays Musa, said, «Musa is an empath. Her power is to feel everyone’s emotions, whether it’s nature or anything around. She’s just open and honest, but also she’s not honest with herself and she’s trying to learn how to do that.»

Danny Griffin, Sadie Soverall, Freddie Thorp, Eve Best, and Robert James-Collier were cast to play Sky, Beatrix, Riven, Farah Dowling, and Saul Silva in the series.^[27]

Filming

Filming of the first season began in County Wicklow, Ireland, in September 2019^[21] and concluded in December 2019.^[28] The primary filming locations included Killruddery House and Ardmore Studios in Bray.^[29][30][31] Some indoor scenes of the series were shot at Ashford Studios.^[32] Griffin, who plays Sky, said, «We had an incredible stunt crew who would take us through the steps very slowly and were really patient in the beginning. But it’s always a big struggle, because later it had to be fast and accurate.»^[33] Cowen, who plays Bloom, said, «Playing Bloom was interesting. I think I put a lot of pressure on myself because I knew that so many people are fans of the original Winx. It was a nerve-wracking but exciting and exhilarating experience.»^[34]

Westhuysen, who portrays Stella, revealed, «I made diaries, scrapbooks, and things like that. They are really nice to look back on and will be very helpful for filming season two.»^[35] Salt, who plays Terra, said, «I think what jumped out for me was just the range that everybody gets to do in the show, which is, I guess, quite unusual for most parts, but I think especially when you’re generally playing young women, and the fact that we get to do comedy and tragedy and action and there’s a lot to get your teeth into, so that’s what really stood out to me.»^[36] Mustapha, who plays Aisha, added, «I think the power of female friendship was something that really struck a chord with me, and I was like, ‘This will be really fun to do’ because we don’t often get shows that are centred around women, let alone five women, so that was something I was definitely really excited about being a part of.»^[36]

Fate: The Winx Saga‘s music score was composed by Anne Nikitin, and the official playlist is available on Spotify, including 33 songs from various artists.^[37] Netflix also released a playlist for each fairy – Bloom’s Fire Playlist, Stella’s Light Playlist, Musa’s Mind Playlist, Aisha’s Water Playlist, Terra’s Earth Playlist, and Beatrix’s Air Playlist – on Spotify.^[38]

Development

On 18 February 2021, Netflix renewed the series for a second season to consist of eight episodes.^[10] «The six episodes in season one only scratched the surface of this incredibly rich world and the powerful fairies who inhabit it. As Bloom’s story continues to evolve, I can’t wait for you to learn even more about Aisha, Stella, Terra, and Musa! And you never know who might show up at Alfea next term…» said showrunner Brian Young.^[39] The second season, which ultimately consisted of seven episodes, released on 16 September 2022.^[11]

Young revealed the audience can expect Icy and Darcy, two of the Trix trio, if the show gets renewed for a season three.^[40]

Young added, «The benefit of a season 2 show is it gives you the ability to sort of expand the things that made season 1 great. We had more second-unit days, we had more VFX, more everything to be completely honest. We were able to really make the VFX sing to make the show feel like it’s the best version of itself that it can be.»^[41] Visual Effects supervisor David Houghton said, «In COVID times, it is difficult to rally as many extras as you would normally be able to. With some VFX help and some clever filming, we’re able to fill out our world.»

On Terra’s coming out moment, Salt said, «I was told it was going to happen quite early on in Season 1. So I knew that whole time, and I kept it quiet-ish. The website’s critical consensus reads, «Flat, flimsy, and forgettable, Fate: The Winx Saga is a fantastical flop that fails to capture the magic of its source material.»^[54]

Caroline Framke of Variety criticized the series for relying too much on clichés and wrote that «while adapted from an animated show about friends that was largely targeted at pre-teens, it takes a page out of the Riverdale book by giving everything an ominous sheen of sexy intrigue».^[55] Joel Keller from Decider urged the audience to skip the series, stating that «while there’s nothing inherently terrible about Fate: The Winx Saga, there’s nothing about it that stands out. Also, do we need yet another dark and gritty remake of a beloved kids’ series?»^[56] Deirdre Molumby from Entertainment.ie praised the cast but criticized the plot and the poor CGI quality.^[57]

Petrana Radulovic of Polygon wrote that «Fate: The Winx Saga does create a compelling, nuanced plot. The worldbuilding is exciting, offering a spin on the animated series’ world of fairies and non-magical, sword-wielding Specialists.»^[58] Melissa Camacho of Common Sense Media criticized the diversity of the cast along with the teen angst shown in the series, but wrote that «Fate: The Winx Saga offers a story world that is easy to escape into, and easy to get caught up in, if you’re looking for a fantastical universe to explore.»^[59]

Viewership

The show peaked at #2 on Nielsen’s Streaming Charts on the week of 25 January with 918 million minutes in viewership, trailing only Bridgerton at 936 million.^[60][61] On 20 April 2021, Netflix reported that 57 million of its subscribers watched the first season of the series during the first 28 days of its release.^[62][63]

Controversy

The series received backlash over the casting of Applebaum as Musa, who was coded as East Asian and whose character design was based on Lucy Liu, as well as the apparent replacement of Flora, who was coded as Latina and whose character design was based on Jennifer Lopez, with a new white character named Terra.^[64][65]

In response to the backlash, Abigail Cowen said she was not involved in the casting but hoped that Flora would be introduced in the second season, saying «I do think diversity both in front of and behind the camera is vital and much-needed throughout the industry and internationally. So I think it’s important that we are having these conversations.» Brian Young has said Terra is the cousin of Flora, leaving Flora’s inclusion in the show a possibility.^[66] Elisha Applebaum, who plays Musa, also addressed the controversy. «It’s really sad to see that fans were upset with the casting. I wasn’t involved in the casting but I hope that what they’ve seen and how I’ve portrayed Musa was to their liking,» Elisha told Digital Spy.^[67]

Responding to the backlash to the casting whitewashing, Iginio Straffi said that Rainbow S.p.A. demanded that the ethnic diversity of Winx Club be respected in the live-action adaptation, but that Netflix chose to make different casting choices.^[68]

Tie-in novels

On 2 February 2021, a novelization of the first season, titled The Fairies’ Path, was released. It features bonus scenes and character backstories not seen on the show. It was written by Irish author Sarah Rees Brennan under the pen name Ava Corrigan.^[69]

On 16 August 2022, another novel, titled Lighting the Fire, was released. It features an original story not seen in the show, set before the events of the first season. It was again written by Sarah Rees Brennan, this time under her real name.^[70]

Сделать из Winx лайв-экшен сериал, сохранив дух и каноничность оригинала, невозможно. Давайте просто признаем это. И дело даже не в бюджете, который бы рос в геометрической прогрессии, попытайся Netflix показать на экране то же, что показывали в мультфильме.

Просто нельзя сделать современное не анимационное шоу про школу, где шестнадцатилетние девочки с полным серьёзности лицом трансформируются в блестящих крылатых фей, сумочки, броши и другие аксессуары усиливают их магию, а каждая вторая героиня — идеальная принцесса, причём буквально. Впрочем, никто такой сериал делать и не собирался.

Секрет популярности Winx всегда был в том, насколько его создатели умеют подстраиваться под свою аудиторию и современные тенденции в медиа. «Старые» фанаты франшизы могут сколько угодно жаловаться на слишком детские сюжеты в новых сезонах мультсериала и внешне «помолодевших» героинь, но таким образом студия просто угождает своим настоящим зрителям — детям до 12 лет.

И всё же повзрослевших фанатов осталось много. Только автору Winx просто нечего было им предложить. До тех пор, пока кому-то не пришло в голову превратить историю о кукольных феях во «взрослое» и мрачное подростковое фэнтези о школе магии. К тому же тут очень вовремя на Netflix заканчиваются «Приключения Сабрины» — ниша для такого рода шоу остаётся свободной.

По методичке

И говоря «подростковое фэнтези», я имею в виду именно то, что приходит на ум, когда вы слышите эти слова. Даже начинается «Сага» до ужаса клишировано.

Блум, простая девушка из Калифорнии, попадает в школу для фей Алфею (за дурацкие названия спасибо оригиналу). Ей ничего не известно о магии, об иных мирах и о том, что она потенциально самая могущественная фея за последнюю тысячу лет. И да, это снова история об избранной.

В первые же полчаса зрителя загружают всеми возможными штампами подобных историй: главная героиня тут же находит друзей, готовых ей помочь, её замечает самый симпатичный мальчик школы, её недолюбливает местная стерва и по совместительству девушка того самого парня, и это только в первой серии.

Дальше будут и споры с родителями, отказывающимися рассказывать всю правду своим детям, и скрытые романы, и слитые в инстаграм видео, где поливают грязью одного из персонажей, и вообще всё самое банальное, что только смогли вспомнить сценаристы. Чего только стоит классический троп «я не буду тебе рассказывать всю правду, чтобы мы дольше обижались друг на друга».

При этом диалоги написаны не лучшим образом — зачастую не веришь, что люди могут так разговаривать. А местами ещё и может показаться, что персонажи в сценах разговоров ведут себя очень странно и наиграно. Но тут виноват скорее неудачный монтаж, потому что в других эпизодах те же актёры и актрисы выдают хорошую для жанра игру.

И всё же, несмотря на «мэрисьюшность» главной героини, нелогичные поступки, странные любовные линии и изредка встречающееся неадекватное поведение персонажей, это шоу смотреть заметно приятнее, чем многие другие сериалы, ориентированные на подростков.

Вопреки ожиданиям

Если просто принять все эти недостатки как что-то неизбежное, сериал может даже понравиться. Да, в моменте герои шоу ведут себя иногда странно, но в целом это на удивление интересная история, чего точно не ждёшь от адаптации Winx.

Сеттинг оказался на удивление приземлённым: здесь королева Солярии ездит на Range Rover, в повседневной жизни магия почти незаметна, разве что герои изредка пользуются ей в бытовых нуждах, а сама школа больше напоминает особняк Людей Икс.

Самое интересное, что двадцать лет назад в магическом мире бушевала жестокая война с Сожжёнными — древними существами, которые представляют угрозу даже для тренированной феи. Причём война показана почти реалистично. Все ходят в военной форме, беспрекословно подчиняются командиру и совершают порой неприятные вещи, вплоть до военных преступлений.

Именно с тёмным прошлым взрослых персонажей связана большая часть сюжетных поворотов. Ныне добрейшие директриса и преподаватели хранят несколько неприятных секретов. Они не рассказывают, почему дальнее крыло школы больше похоже на военный штаб, почему война прекратилась, куда, в конце концов, делась предыдущая директриса.

И когда Блум пытается разгадать эти тайны чтобы найти своих настоящих родителей, между персонажами начинаются конфликты. Никто никому не рассказывает всей правды (по разным причинам), одни врут, вторые тонко манипулируют третьими, и это порождает ряд интригующих сюжетных поворотов.

Причём во всём, что касается главной сюжетной линии не ощущается уж совсем детской наивности. Здесь нет строгого разделения на положительных и отрицательных персонажей, у каждого своя правда, а сам сериал иногда задаёт непростые (для такого шоу) вопросы, вроде того, на что можно пойти ради победы в войне и как потом относиться к «героям» такой войны.

Забавно, что параллельно с этим сериал пытаются сделать взрослым и куда более простыми методами: сделав главных героев больше похожими на реальных подростков. Они здесь регулярно ругаются матом, не брезгуют алкоголем и другими веществами, а их отношения не заканчиваются неловкими поцелуями, как в оригинале.

Впрочем, сравнивать сериал и мультфильм в принципе очень сложно. Здесь даже не все персонажи оригинала есть. Сам Клуб Винкс лишился Техны, теперь героинь только пять, а место Флоры заняла её двоюродная сестра Терра, сильно отличающаяся характером.

Впрочем, с характером героинь здесь всё непросто. Их изрядно переделали под нужды истории. Например в мультфильме Аиша (в русской версии Лейла) — спортивная девушка, активная, вспыльчивая, предпочитающая сначала действовать, а затем уже думать. В сериале она всё такая же спортивная, но в остальном рассудительная, справедливая, предпочитающая соблюдать все правила и подчиняться старшим.

Интересно преобразили Музу. Как и в оригинале, она замкнутая, но очень ранимая и вспыльчивая. Но здесь для этого есть причина: её способности теперь связаны не с музыкой, а с эмпатией — она может ощущать чужие чувства и эмоции как её собственные, что и делает общение с людьми таким сложным.

Здешний мир также устроен иначе. Например если в оригинале специалисты — это одарённые магией воины (хотя и предпочитающие её не использовать), учащиеся в отдельной школе, то здесь это «первая линия обороны» Алфеи, студенты, которые всё время учатся сражаться и живут по соседству с феями.

К тому же специалистами теперь могут быть женщины, а феями мужчины. Но спишем это на позитивное влияние феминизма. Хотя посмотреть на лысого и крылатого сорокалетнего фея после его полного преображения было бы интересно.

Впрочем с трансформацией в сериале как-то не задалось. В мультфильме это была одна из самых интересных (в первую очередь для детей) тем — как будут меняться крылья и костюмы героинь после очередного усиления их сил, будь то чармикс, гармоникс или беливикс. Но в новом шоу в первой же серии нам говорят, что секрет полной трансформации был давно утерян.

Одно из самых заметных отличий двух шоу — это, конечно, количество и насыщенность экшен-сцен. Они здесь очень короткие, их мало, а поставлены они скучно. Достойными можно назвать разве что два эпизода: в них силы персонажей отлично гармонируют друг с другом, что даёт хоть какой-то интерес к просмотру, в отличие от финального боя, в котором на протяжении минуты все враги умирают от одной и той же атаки.

В большом недоумении оставляет и финал сезона. До этого весь интерес к сюжету и развитие персонажей держались на «серой морали», до самого конца было непонятно, кто в этой истории злодей. Во втором же сезоне сериал рискует потерять эту особенность. Становится очевиден двухсторонний конфликт «хороших против плохих», и сценаристам придётся постараться, чтобы сохранить интригу в сюжете.

«Сага клуба Винкс» умудряется собирать все клише young adult фэнтези, но при этом не раздражать. Это и благодаря высокой динамике событий (при шести сериях в сезоне иначе никак), и из-за грамотно построенной интригующей истории. Потенциально это одно из самых интересных подростковых шоу ближайшей пары лет.

Но это всё ещё именно сериал про подростков, нацеленный на определённую аудиторию. И если вам не нравились такие вещи и раньше, то и теперь они вряд ли придутся по душе. Разве что в детстве вы смотрели оригинальный мультсериал и очень хотите узнать, как его адаптировали.

Вместо вступления будет немного истории. Оригинальный сериал вышел на экраны в 2004-м году, и тут же завоевал большую популярность. На мой взгляд, главная причина этого — удачная смесь сказочности и отсуствия стерильности, которая сейчас сопровождает практически все детские шоу, дабы не травмировать нежную детскую психику. Правда, изначально сериал был рассчитан всего на три сезона и одну полнометражку, так что после этого остро встал вопрос, что же делать дальше. Популярность требовала продолжения банкета, сюжет требовал остановиться.
Так появился 4-й сезон, в котором, с одной стороны, были отличные злодеи и смерть персонажа, а с другой — началась деградация главных героинь. Позже итальянцы стали сотрудничать с американцами, и сериал покатился вниз. Феи стали одинаковыми, сюжет — ясельным, и в какой-то момент я уже не смогла заставить себя это смотреть, потому что свинка Пеппа и то оказалась интересней.
И вот в какой-то момент Нетфликс решил снять сериал с живыми актерами. Дело было примерно так:

Сериал был заявлен как подростковый, но при этом рейтинг у него 18+. Поэтому если вам еще нет 18, я рекомендую не читать дальше эту запись.

После того, как возраст целевой аудитории сериала стал младше, чем у Пеппы, у Нетфликса что-то бомбануло, и они решили качнуть маятник в противоположном направлении. И качнули по полной. Первая же серия начинается с убийства сторожа. Мрачная музыка, смачное чавканье, брызги крови — нам с ходу показывают, что содержание будет недетским. Ну ок. Секс и травка упоминаются уже на 15-й минуте.

Мультсериал и нетфликс-сериал

То, что сериалы будут сильно отличаться по настрою, стало понятно сразу. Остался вопрос, останется ли вообще хоть что-то общее хотя бы по сюжету.
Осталось не так уж и много, но основная мысль все-таки прослеживается.
Блум всю жизнь прожила на Земле и думала, что она обычная девочка. Но потом узнала, что она фея, переместилась в волшебное измерение и стала учиться в школе для фей. И оказалось, что у нее самая сильная в мире магия огня дракона. Все это время она задавалась вопросом, кто же она такая и кто ее родители. Потом на школу напали монстры, но Блум всех победила. (Ну и по ходу закрутила роман с принцем Скаем.)

Но, скажем честно, это могло бы быть основой и для абсолютно самостоятельного сериала. Если бы главная героиня звалась Эшли, школа — Морин Колледж, а сила — огонь первородных, то никто бы особого сходства именно с Винкс не заметил. Школ много, а симпатичный блондин для главной героини есть почти в каждом сериале. Если его нет, значит он просто брюнет.

Почему же именно Винкс? Ну а почему бы и нет. Оригинальный сериал очень раскручен, о существовании фей знают даже те, кто его не смотрел. Можно много сэкономить на рекламе.

Старые и новые персонажи

Половину персонажей взяли с оригинала, половину придумали сами. Из фей оставили Блум, Стеллу, Музу (с другой силой) и Аишу (с другой, но похожей силой). Из специалистов остались только Скай и Ривен, при этом у Ривена сильно другая роль.

На мой взгляд, надо было оставлят только Блум, Стеллу и Ская. Это основная тройка персонажей, они почти не изменились и их образы узнаваемы. Назвали бы уж девушку и силой эмпатии другим именем, мы бы погундели, что Муза была ее прообразом, но воспринимали бы как самостоятельного персонажа. А сейчас то ли недомуза, то ли просто тезка. То же и с Аишей. Тем более, что они обе остались во второстепенных персонажах. Но об этом позже.

Возраст фей

Я уже упоминала это в комментарии к прошлой записи, но повторюсь еще. Самая большая проблема, которая у меня возникла при просмотре сериала — это возраст фей. Когда сказали, что им по 16, и что Блум родилась в 2004-м году, я поперхнулась и такая: «Чего????» У меня племянница родилась в 2004-м году. Я вижу ее, иногда ее одноклассниц. Вчера даже залезла в инстаграм и покопалась в ее подписках, чтобы посмотреть, как выглядят среднестатичные девочки шестнадцати лет. Так вот, они выглядят на 16 лет. У них уже взрослые фигуры и еще детские личики. Причем в инсту пытаются выкладывать фотки, где они все такие как будто уже взрослые. Но по лицам, по глазкам видно, насколько еще юные.
Так вот у актрис я не вижу именно этой юности. По внешнему виду я их ассоциирую с собой, но мне-то было уже больше 16, когда я этот блог только начинала вести. А сейчас и подавно.
В качестве независимого эксперта позвала мужа. Он посмотрел полминуты и сказал, что им ближе к 30. Даже если списать на плохое освещение, которое прибавляет пару лет, получается далеко не 16.

Посмотрела возраст актрис:
Блум — 22
Муза — 25
Стелла — 25
Флора — 27
Аиша — 23

Ну вот не поверю, что у Нефликса не нашлось пять талантливых девочек-подростков по 16-17 лет.

Ну или сделали бы сюжет, где всем героиням за 20. Почему им не может быть за 20? У вас и так абсолютно другой сериал. А когда вполне себе взрослые и зрелые девахи вдруг изображают подростков, у меня наступает диссонанс.

Возможно, это только моя проблема, но она у меня есть.

Персонажи

Девочки:
Блум — самая сильная фея. Как и в оригинале она фея огня, которая хочет узнать правду о своем прошлом. Для главной героини — хороший персонаж. Единственная проблема — мне хотелось ей скинуть лет хотя бы… в общем, чтобы было похоже на 16. Но я постараюсь больше об этом не упоминать.
Стелла — фея света. В сериале она выглядит высокомерной, но нам насколько раз говорят, что это только внешне. А внутри она нежная и ранимая. Правда, больше говорят, чем показывают. Приходится верить на слово.
Терра — фея природы. Пухлая девушка, которая борется со своими комплексами. Выглядит полноценным персонажем со своими тараканами. С мультсериалом ее связывает то, что она — двоюродная сестра Флоры.
Муза — фея с силой эмпатии, может чувствовать чужие чувства. Я понимаю, что для силы музыки в сериале с живыми актерами было бы трудно найти применение, но можно было бы сделать силу звука. Я очень долго гадала, куда можно применить силу эмпатии, но так и не придумала. Судя по всему, сценаристы тоже толком не придумали, поэтому почти весь сезон Муза страдала от своей бесполезности.
Аиша — фея воды. Эх, а так хотелось фею жвачки. ))) В сериале она — правильная, дисциплинированная, ответственная. И тоже на вторых ролях.

Собственно, можно было бы смело объединять Музу с Аишей в одну новую фею. Был бы новый полноценный персонаж и больше экранного времени на его раскрытие.

Беллатрикс — трикс 3 в 1. Фея с магией воздуха. Вот тут хочу сказать огромное спасибо сценаристам, что сделали ее одну! Персонажей и так много, и еще и трех разных злых фей я бы просто не выдержала. Им и на добрых времени-то не хватило.

Мальчики:
Скай — блондинистый принц. Здесь у него своя трагическая история. В отличие от мультсериала, в прошлом встречался со Стеллой.
Ривен — друг Ская. Курит травку, сексуется с Беллатрикс. Зачем ему школа — непонятно, такое чувство, что ему просто больше некуда идти, а в Алфее можно и покурить, и побухать — удобно.
Дейн — темнокожий первокурсник, которого тянет быть третьим в паре Ривен-Беллатрикс. Его ориентация активно обсуждалась весь сезон, но однозначного ответа нам так и не дали. Задумалась, что еще о нем написать, но, пожалуй, больше особо и нечего.
Сэм — брат Терры, встречается с Музой. Он не специалист, а фея (фей?) с умением проходить сквозь стены. Пока что больше нужен для фона. Самое яркой появление — сцена секса, да и там помешала Стелла.

Взрослые:
Фара Доулинг — (смесь Фарагонды и Роулинг?) директор школы. Аналог Фарагонды.
Сол Сильва — начальник специалистов, аналог Кадакорты, только худой и жилистый.
Папа Терры — так и не запомнила, как его зовут. Занимается оранжереей, готовит снадобья, лечит раненых.
Розалинда — старая фея, которая когда-то была главной, и у которой свои планы.
Луна — мама Стеллы, королева Солярии, высокомерная тетка, которая изображает идеальную фею и королеву.

Злодеи:
Сожженные — что-то типа обугленных людей. Если они кого-то ранили, то жертва заражается и умирает. Но если убить сожженного, то не умирает. Главное, убить именно того самого, а не какого-нибудь другого. ))

Алфея

Школа здесь одна. Есть помещение для фей и помещение для специалистов. Зато им удобно ходить друг к другу в гости.
Гендерных различий здесь тоже нет. Феи бывают как девочками, так и мальчиками. Специалисты тоже.
Хочу признаться, что мне очень понравились сцены тренировок специалистов.
Как и в сериале, школа окружена защитным барьером, в фильме он защищает от сожженных. И вся молодежь регулярно прётся за этот барьер. Не знаю, зачем.

Всякое разное

Самое главное для меня в этом сериале — что я его досмотрела до конца. И досмотрела не из-за чувства долга, а было действительно интересно, что же там дальше произойдет. Не могу сказать, что сериал зацепил за живое и заставил сердце биться от волнения, но я была рада, что франшиза оживилась и пошла в другую сторону.

Главный смысл сериала: если не скажешь правду другому человеку, то этот человек найдет свою собственную правду. А если не найдет, то придумает.

В первой серии феи довольно долго обсуждают Гарри Поттера. И конец сезона со сменой власти мне очень как раз этого самого Гарри Поттера напомнил.

Первая серия раскачивается довольно долго. Учебы там еще нет, все знакомятся и готовятся к вечеринке. Зато в последнюю серию напихали столько всего, что мозг в какой-то момент начал закипать от попытки понять, кто кого чем и зачем. А из шкафов посыпались скелеты в огромных количествах.

Огромное спасибо сценаристам, что, оставив главную линию сюжета, они поменяли все мелочи. Нельзя заранее предугадать, что будет дальше. Ну да, Блум когда-нибудь найдет своих родителей. Но кто это будет? Неизвестно. Заброшенные королевства пока что не упоминались.

Ура, нам наконец-то объяснили происхождение электроэнергии в Алфее! А то мы тут гадали в комментариях. В конце последней серии я очень обрадовалась, что удалось вернуть нормальное освещение — мои глазки заметно устали от полумрака.

В мультсериале большую роль играл папа Стеллы. В нетфликс-сериале он даже не упоминается. Солярией правит королева Луна. Интересно, какова судьба ее мужа?

Только после просмотра нетфликс-сериала до меня дошло, сколько драмы можно было напихать в образ Ская. Эх, Инджинио, ты упустил такие возможности!

И крылья феи мне понравились! Сначала думала, что это так пасхалкой и останется, но нет. Было красиво.

Я думаю, нетфликс-сериал задумывался минимум на 3 сезона. В следующем сезоне так и просится появление Даркара или его аналога. Кто-то же должен управлять сожжеными.

Я думаю, нет смысла описывать сюжет каждой серии. Кто захочет, тот посмотрит. Событий и мелких зацепок очень много, очущещения после просмотра весьма сумбурные, я даже не знаю, за что хвататься. Возможно, позже еще что-то допишу.

Выводы

Собрались однажды сценаристы и стали гадать, какой бы сценарий написать. Выпили ящик пива — ничего не придумали. Выпили ящик вина — ничего не придумали. Выпили ящик водки — и тут один говорит:

— А давайте сделаем сценарий, где толпа молодых людей обоего пола не может найти себе места в жизни, и чтобы они не слонялись просто так, их сгоняют как бы в армию. Но так как войны нет, то они живут сами по себе в общаге и постоянно тусуются в меру и не в меру. Ну и иногда их тренируют, но больше для галочки.
— Так если войны нет, то зачем нужна армейская подготовка?
— Ну, можно сказать, что война была когда-то давно. И вдруг она опять начнется. И вообще учеба никого не заботит, главное — тусня горячих молодых парней и девушек, у которых есть море алкоголя и нет никакого контроля.
— Ну, ниче так идея. А кому сценарий отдадим?
— Конечно, Нетфликсу.
И написали они сценарий, и принесли его Нетфликсу. Прочитал его продюсер и говорит:
— Шикарно! Берем! И начали они снимать сериал. Набрали молодых актеров поаппетитнее, пива, травки, лифчиков ажурных накупили. И тут звонит кто-то там самый главный.
— Ребята, мы тут купили права на Винкс, надо скрочно что-то снять. Говорят, у вас там уже процесс идет. В общем, сценарий оставляем тот же, только теперь девушки будут называться феями и им по 16 лет.
— Ээээ, но мы уже набрали актеров, которым по 25! Мы уже отсняли полсериала!
— Ой, да ладно, сделайте освещение помрачнее, никто и не заметит.
Так и вышел новый сериал Винкс.

В применении к оригинальному мультсериалу, волшебству, трогательной первой любви и всему прочему сериал от Нетфликса выглядит настолько странно, что даже не раздражает. Скорее, присутствует чувство полного офигевания от всего происходящего.
И мне интересно, что же там придумают дальше.

Сюжетная завязка тоже осталась похожей. Блум быстро узнает, что ее родители – приемные. Настоящие мать и отец произошли из мира фей, но она понятия не имеет, кто они. Пока Блум пытается раскрыть эту тайну, Алфея страдает от другой беды – школу атакуют некие монстры, которых не смогли истребить много лет назад. А администрация Алфеи, как выясняется, темнит по многим вопросам и не совсем откровенна со своими учениками.

Главных героинь (кроме Музы), которые должны быть современными девушками, одевают по моде нулевых. Одного из главных бэд боев даже оставили без крайне актуальных сегодня фиолетовых волос. Неужели создатели сериала ни разу не заходили в TikTok?

«Судьба: Сага клуба Винкс» — это экранизация сериала «Клуб Винкс» от Nickelodeon, который создал итальянский художник Иджинио Страффи.

Игровой сериал Netflix оказался намного мрачнее анимационного предшественника. В сериале рассказывается история пяти фей, которые поступают в школу-интернат под названием «Алфея» — место, где они должны овладевать своими магическими способностями и учиться их контролировать.

Пять фей участвуют в сюжете, полном любви, дружбы и разнообразных секретов. Главные персонажи сериала — фея света Стелла (Ханна ван дер Вестхуйсен), фея воды Аиша (Прешес Мустафа), фея земли Терра (Элиот Солт), фея разума Муса (Элиша Эпплбаум) и фея огня Блум (Эбигейл Коуэн).

Концепция подменыша — одна из центральных тем сериала «Судьба: Сага клуба Винкс». Блум была воспитана как человек, ничего не знающий о Потустороннем мире.

Эта загадка двигает повествование вперед, и мы обнаруживаем, что Блум — сирота из Астер Делла, города, разоренного Розалиндой для уничтожения Сожженных. Розалинда забрала Блум и отдала ее на попечение приемных родителей.

Попав в «Алфею», Блум пытается выяснить свое происхождение. Стремясь найти своих биологических родителей, Блум открывает свои огромные силы, оказавшись перед лицом смертельной опасности.

Почему Блум выпускает Розалинду?

Пытаясь сдержать свою любопытство, Блум завязывает с Даулинг довольно сложные отношения. Благодаря этому Блум узнает о Розалинде, бывшей директрисе «Алфеи» и наставнице Даулинг.

У Блум есть основания полагать, что Розалинда может помочь ей с ответами. Беатрикс раскрывает эти детали Блум, и в итоге она освобождает Розалинду, которая оказывается в ловушке мощного магического барьера.

Розалинда сообщает Блум, что Астер Делл, город, из которого она изначально происходит, населен кровавыми ведьмами, пытающимися извлечь силы Блум.

Увидев возможность убить кровавых ведьм под предлогом нападения на Сожженных, Розалинда приказала стереть Астер Делл с лица Земли. Блум не может собрать какую-либо значимую информацию о своих биологических родителях и распознать хитрые манипуляции Розалинды.

Можно понять, что желание Блум узнать правду и мучительная дилемма подменыша вынуждает ее освободить Розалинду. Тем не менее, ее проницательные наблюдения позволяют ей видеть скрытые мотивы Розалинды.

Какие планы у Розалинды?

Розалинда — мастер-манипулятор, которая благодаря своим схемам всегда на шаг опережает конкурентов.

Она жаждет обуздать Драконье пламя Блум и таким образом держать ее подальше от Потустороннего мира, чтобы ее план мог быть завершен, когда придет время.

Пути Розалинды сомнительны, но они сильно влияют на жизнь в «Алфее». Также выясняется, что она поддерживает жизнь Андреаса, чтобы заботиться о Беатрикс, которая в свою очередь служит пешкой в ее более крупной игре.

Розалинда говорит о надвигающейся войне, и ее планы, похоже, строятся с учетом этой возможности. Для нее цель оправдывает средства.

Случайное убийство Даулинг — яркий пример ее жестокости. Интересно, что королева фей Луна также находится на стороне Розалинды.
